Akhanda Godavari project bhumi puja scheduled for June 19 postponed, says Minister
The bhumi puja for the Akhanda Godavari project scheduled to be performed on June 19 has been cancelled, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Cinematography Kandula Durgesh said on Saturday.
Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan would perform the bhumi puja for the Akhanda Godavari project and permanent buildings of the Andhra Pradesh State Forest Academy in Diwaancheruvu Reserve Forest, and inaugurate a Sub-Regional Science Centre in Rajamahendravaram by the June-end, said Mr. Durgesh.
Reviewing the arrangements being made for these programmes, Mr. Durgesh said the Centre had sanctioned ₹97 crore for the Akhanda Godavari project under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI). As part of the project, Havelock Bridge would be renovated with various tourist attractions.
The A.P. State Forest Academy is now being run from the Regional Forest Research Centre in Rajamahendravaram. Recently, the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change approved the diversion of six acres of reserve forest land for the construction of the Forest Academy buildings.
The construction of the Sub-Regional Science Centre has been completed at Bommuru, on the outskirts of Rajamahendravaram, with ₹15.2 crore aid offered by the Ministry of Culture.
East Godavari District Collector P. Prasanthi, MLAs B. Balarama Krishna, Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdari, SP D. Narasimha Kishore and other officials were present in the meeting.
