Patriots draft top kicker in 2025 NFL Draft
There will be a kicker competition in New England this offseason. With their first pick in the sixth round, the Patriots drafted kicker Andres Borregales out of Miami with pick 182. Mike Vrabel's team made Borregales the first kicker selected in the 2025 NFL Draft. Advertisement That wasn't a complete surprise. Regarded as the best placekicker in this draft, Borregales has a massive leg and the Patriots had pre-draft interest in him. Special teams coordinator Jeremy Springer was on hand at Miami's Pro Day to see Borregales kick. On that day, he hit a 65-yarder in front of scouts, coaches, and general managers. Borregales will come to Foxborough where he'll compete with kicker John Parker Romo for the job. Borregales was consistent in college, hitting 86% (74-of-86) of his field goal attempts over the last four seasons. He had a 94.7% field goal percentage (18-of-19) last season at Miami. Borregales also has a huge leg, connecting on 7-of-10 kicks from 50 yards or more during his collegiate career. He was also perfect (11-of-11) between 20-39 yards for the Hurricanes last fall. Borregales hit 99.5% (183-of-184) of his extra point attempts over the last four years. Advertisement The Patriots hope Borregales will fix their kicking woes. He's the third kicker drafted in New England since the 2019 season. The Patriots drafted Justin Rohrwasser in the fifth round in 2020 and Chad Ryland in the fourth round in 2023. Neither lasted long in New England. Rohrwasser lost out to Nick Folk, who was great in Foxborough. In 2023, Ryland struggled, finishing last in the NFL in field goal percentage. That led to Joey Slye taking over last season. He made 78.8% of his field goal attempts. Slye signed with Tennessee this offseason. Now, Borregales will compete with Parker Romo, who made 11-of-12 field goal attempts last season with Minnesota. More Patriots Content Read the original article on MassLive.

Patriots rookie kicker grew up idolizing Adam Vinatieri
Andres Borregales might be from Miami. But the rookie kicker, taken in the sixth-round by the Patriots Saturday, is well-versed in the team's history. Particularly, with a nod toward their kickers. 'I'm excited. All my life, I looked up to Adam Vinatieri', Borregales said of the Patriots 3-time Super Bowl winner during a video call shortly after being selected. '(He's) a legend, honestly, and especially all of those kicks in the snow, all of those clutch kicks in the snow.' Advertisement While there is some thought kickers who are used to operating in the warm weather don't do as well in the cold, Borregales doesn't buy that notion. 'I can't wait to experience that,' he said. 'I know a lot of people thought that, being from Miami, I can't handle the cold. But I can prove people wrong about that.' Borregales is aware of the long line of successful kickers in New England, starting with Vinatieri, and moving on to Stephen Gostkowski, and Nick Folk. 'I feel like the Patriots have, honestly, a good line of legendary kickers,' Borregales said. 'I'm excited to one day be a part of that conversation, and contribute to this organization.' Advertisement Borregales, who was the first kicker taken in the draft, hit on 86% (74-of-86) of his field goal attempts over the last four seasons. He had a 94.7% field goal percentage (18-of-19) last season at Miami. Distance-wise, he connected on 7-of-10 kicks from 50 yards or more during his collegiate career. Borregales says as a kicker says he has a 'one shot, one kill mentality' when it comes to making kicks. The consensus top kicking prospect in the draft also indicated he was close with Patriots senior personnel executive Alonzo Highsmith, who was previously on the staff at Miami. During the spring camps and training camp, Borregales will be competing with John Parker Romo for the starting job. More Patriots Content Read the original article on MassLive.

New Patriots kicker Andres Borregales idolized Adam Vinatieri growing up
The Patriots drafted Miami kicker Andres Borregales in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and the 23-year-old doesn't sound too worried about kicking in the finnicky New England weather. Why? Because he's modeled his game off Patriots legendary kicker Adam Vinatieri, who had a knack for making clutch kicks in the worst conditions. Even after spending the last four years in humid Miami, Borregales is confident he can handle the cold in New England. "All my life I looked up to Adam Vinatieri. Legend, honestly. All those kicks in the snow, and clutch kicks in the snow, actually. I can't wait to experience that," Borregales said Saturday after being drafted by the Patriots. "I know a lot of people thought that obviously, being from Miami, I can't handle the cold, but I think I can prove people wrong about that." Borregales was one of the top kickers available this year, and will now compete with John Parker Romo for New England's kicking duties in training camp. He'll bring a solid resume to New England and the NFL. Who is Andres Borregales? Borregales was the first kicker drafted in 2025, after he earned First-Team All-ACC honors in each of the last two seasons for the Hurricanes. The Venezuela native was a four-year starter at Miami, and hit 74 of his 86 field-goal attempts (86 percent) for his career. He was 18-for-19 in 2024 and connected on 40 of his 45 field goal attempts the last two seasons. Borregales set a school record at the U with 405 points for his career. Now we'll see if that success translates to the NFL level, in a place where the weather can get real iffy late in the season. Kicking field goals runs in Borregales' family. His brother, Jose, won the Lou Groza Award while with Miami in 2020, which is given to college football's top kicker. Jose spent time on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad in 2021.

Saints have met with one of the best kicking prospects in the 2025 draft class
One of the premier kickers in the class, Miami's Andres Borregales met with a long list of teams during Shrine week, including the following: • Broncos • Steelers • Commanders • Colts • 49ers • Saints • Eagles • Lions • Seahawks • Titans — Ryan Fowler (@_RyanFowler_) January 28, 2025 The New Orleans Saints were one of the ten teams to meet with top kicking prospect Andres Borregales during the week leading up to the East-West Shrine Bowl, per The Draft Network's Ryan Fowler. This is a huge opportunity for the Saints in the upcoming draft, as Borregales is a special player and one of the best kicking prospects in recent years. Over the course of his four year career, Borregales has made 183 of his 184 PATs (99.5%), and 74 of his 86 field goal tries (86.0%), but what is so special about him is his development to kicking from range. In those four seasons he has made 7 of 10 field goal attempts from 50-plus yards, and 17 of 21 from 40 to 49 yards. Meaning on kicks of 40-plus yards he is making 77.4% of them in his collegiate career. The development from range has grown over the years however, and in 2024 he was able to hit a field goal from 56 yards out, which may have been good from another five to seven yards out as well. He has led the ACC in PAT attempts and makes previously (2024) and field goal attempts and makes as well (2023). In his four collegiate seasons, he has accrued 405 total points, tied for 52nd all time in college football scoring. Interestingly enough, his brother José Borregales was also a placekicker with Miami previously, and Andres was the one to come in and succeed him when he went on to the NFL in 2021. José would go undrafted in 2021 and sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for two seasons on the practice squad, before moving on to the XFL and CFL in ensuing seasons. He would end up 85th on the all-time college scoring list as well. While the Saints do already have Blake Grupe and Charlie Smyth, you can never have enough kicking competition to try and improve everyone in the room. Borregales would absolutely be up to the task of competing for a starting spot, and potentially winning it.
