Student arrested after loaded gun found at Fort Pierce Westwood High School
ST. LUCIE COUNTY – A student at Fort Pierce Westwood High School was arrested May 5 after sheriff's investigators said the boy had a loaded gun in his backpack, the agency stated.
Two students in the early afternoon May 5 were in 'a school administrative investigation being conducted by a dean,' and school resource deputies were present, the Sheriff's Office stated.
'During a search of one student's backpack by the dean, a loaded 9mm firearm was discovered,' the Sheriff's Office stated. 'Upon the discovery, deputies immediately intervened and detained both students without incident.'

The student arrested is a boy, according to Lt. Andrew Bolonka, sheriff's spokesperson. No other information was immediately available the evening of May 5.
In a message sent to parents, Principal David Alfonso stated those who bring 'a firearm to campus will be arrested and will face severe consequences with the recommendation for expulsion based on the Student Code of Conduct,' he stated.
'We will not tolerate students bringing weapons to campus and we have systems in place to ensure we catch students that do,' he stated.
