Predators coach Andrew Brunette back after 2-game absence
April 10 - Nashville Predators coach Andrew Brunette rejoined the team Thursday after missing two games for a personal matter. Brunette, 51, issued a statement saying he will be back behind the bench for Thursday night's game against the Utah Hockey Club in Salt Lake City. "I'd like to thank ownership and (general manager) Barry Trotz for allowing me to spend time with my family, and thank our entire coaching staff for their help in guiding our team in my absence," he said. "My family and I sincerely appreciate the support from everyone in our organization, our players and our fans." Brunette said he left the team Saturday to return to his native Ontario after his "father experienced an event that required urgent medical attention." In his absence, assistant Todd Richards coached the Predators in two home games: a 2-1 loss Sunday to Montreal and a 7-6 overtime win Tuesday against the New York Islanders. The Predators (28-42-8, 64 points) will miss the playoffs with the third-worst record in the Western Conference. They have four games left in the regular season, including Thursday's contest. Nashville was 47-30-5 during Brunette's first season as head coach in 2023-24, losing to the Vancouver Canucks in six games in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. --Field Level Media

Andrew Brunette will return to Nashville Predators for game vs Utah Hockey Club
Nashville Predators coach Andrew Brunette will be back behind the bench when they take on the Utah Hockey Club at Delta Center on Thursday. Brunette has been away from the team since Saturday while dealing with a family matter. He released a statement via the Predators' X account explaining he's been attending to his father's illness in Ontario. Here's the full statement by Brunette: "My father experienced an event that required urgent medical attention back home in Ontario, which is the reason why I was away from the team for the past few days. I'm happy to be back with our group beginning today in Utah. I'd like to thank our ownership and Barry Trotz for allowing me to spend this time with my family, and thank our entire coaching staff for their help in guiding our team in my absence. My family and I sincerely appreciate the support from everyone in our organization, our players and our fans." After missing the Predators' 2-1 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday and a 7-6 overtime win over the New York Islanders on Tuesday, Brunette will be back behind the bench against the Utah Hockey Club on Thursday. Assistant coach Todd Richards handled head coaching duties in Brunette's absence. Brunette, 51, is from Valley East, a small suburb outside Sudury in Ontario. His father, Dan, worked for Natural Resources Canada, which was influential in Brunette's love for the outdoors growing up. Hired by the Predators in May 2023, Brunette led the Predators to a 47-30-5 record in his first season and was a finalist for the Jack Adams Award, given annually to the league's coach of the year. This year, the Predators have struggled under Brunette and have been eliminated from playoff contention. The Predators take on the Utah Hockey Club at 8 p.m. CT (FanDuel Sports Network). Nashville Predators vs. Toronto Maple Leafs: Live Game Thread
The Nashville Predators (25-35-8, 58 points) wrap up their three-game homestand when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs (42-24-3, 87 points) Saturday at Bridgestone Arena. Nashville is looking to snap a four-game losing streak, while the Maple Leafs are looking for their fourth straight win. The Predators are coming off a 4-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday, after which head coach Andrew Brunette called out a lack of "professionalism" and "energy" from his veteran players. He seemed to walk his comments back Saturday morning, saying the Predators' locker room is full of "great leaders." After the face-off, Auston Matthews won a puck battle along the boards and passed to Mitch Marner. Marner fed the puck to Tavares, who skated through the slot and fired a shot through traffic to give Toronto the 1-0 lead at the 9:16 mark of the first period. Just under four minutes later, Matthews won an offensive zone face-off and immediately put the puck on the stick of Marner, who fired it home to extend Toronto's lead to 2-0 at the 13:05 mark.
