North Lanarkshire Council has introduced a ground-breaking neonatal leave policy for its staff.
The council has adopted a progressive new policy offering neonatal leave for all council staff, marking a significant step forward in support for working families across the the council.
This policy ensures that any employee whose newborn requires neonatal care will receive extended, fully supported leave to spend vital time with their child during the most critical early days of life.
The change follows the introduction of new national legislation under the Labour Government and reflects North Lanarkshire Council's commitment to the wellbeing of both its employees and the broader community.
Councillor Andrew Duffy-Lawson, NLC's Finance Convener, welcomed the policy, stating: 'Under this Labour Government, North Lanarkshire Council has adopted policies embodying neonatal leave for all of our staff.
'This is a proud day for the council and for working parents.
'At the same time, the SNP are downgrading the neonatal unit at Wishaw General Hospital.
'This sends a worrying message to families who need high-quality, local care. While we are stepping up to support parents, the Scottish Government appears to be stepping back.'
