Tears as boy, 4, who died in Mullingar road tragedy laid to rest
Tears flowed as the funeral of a boy, 4, who died in a road tragedy in Mullingar on Easter Monday was laid to rest today. Hundreds of people gathered for prayers at the Islamic Cultural Society Centre in Mullingar this afternoon. Four-year-old Abdur Rehman was buried in Newcastle cemetery in Dublin this afternoon. The boy - who is understood to have celebrated his fourth birthday on Saturday - was hit by a car in Farranshock Estate, located just 2km from Mullingar town, shortly after 6.30pm on Easter Monday. Speaking to Irish Mirror, local councillor Andrew Duncan said 'The whole community is in deep shock and saddened with this tragedy. 'There is gloom across the whole town of Mullingar and afar. It's an awful tragedy. 'A young boy has lost his life and it's an absolute tragedy for all concerned, for the boy, his family, neighbours and the driver of the car who is often forgotten,' said Cllr Duncan said and offered his condolences to the boy's family." It is understood the little boy and his family only moved into the estate a couple of months ago. "We don't know exactly what happened. A little baby, just four years old," family friend Naveed Iqbal said. Fahim Khan explained: "His birthday was on Saturday. It's a loss for every parent. The parents are in the hospital traumatised and only had a new born baby four weeks ago. The mother is absolutely devastated. It's hard to put words together." Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

There is widespread shock and sadness in the community of Mullingar following the tragic death of a four-year-old boy in a road collision. The little boy - who is understood to have celebrated his fourth birthday on Saturday - was hit by a car in Farranshock Estate, located just 2km from Mullingar town, shortly after 6.30pm on Easter Monday. The four-year-old boy was treated at the scene before being taken by ambulance to Mullingar Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Speaking to Irish Mirror, local councillor Andrew Duncan said 'The whole community is in deep shock and saddened with this tragedy. 'There is gloom across the whole town of Mullingar and afar. It's an awful tragedy.
