Chicago Fire fall 1-0 at home to MLS-leading Philadelphia Union

Bruno Damiani converted from the penalty spot in the 10th minute and 19-year-old goalkeeper Andrew Rick had his fourth shutout of the season to help the Philadelphia Union beat the Chicago Fire 1-0 on Wednesday night at Soldier Field. Philadelphia (12-3-4), the MLS points leader with 40, is unbeaten in 11 straight with eight wins. Jakob Glesnes blocked a shot by the Fire's Brian Gutiérrez in the third minute of stoppage time to preserve the win. The Fire (7-7-4) had 57% possession and outshot the Union 15-11 but managed just two shots on goal. Jeffrey Gal has allowed at least one goal in each of his four starts this season for the Fire. Chris Brady, the Fire's regular goalkeeper, is with the U.S. men's national team. Edward Davis, a 19-year-old forward, made his MLS debut when he subbed on for the Union in place of Damiani in the 88th minute.

FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Maarten Paes had two saves after defender Lalas Abubakar drew a red card in the 39th minute, helping short-handed FC Dallas earn a point in a scoreless draw with the Eastern Conference-leading Philadelphia Union on Saturday night. Dallas (4-6-6) was forced to play a man down after Abubakar was tagged with two yellow cards in an eight-minute span. Advertisement Paes earned his second clean sheet in his 14th start this season and his 23rd in 106 career starts with Dallas. Andrew Rick saved the only shot he faced in his seventh start and third shutout this season. He had one clean sheet in six starts as a rookie last year. Neither keeper was tested in the first half. Philadelphia has six wins in a nine-match unbeaten streak and has a four-point lead atop the Eastern Conference. Dallas is winless in six straight (0-3-3).
