Heavy police presence in New Glasgow Tuesday night after wanted man spotted

RCMP) There was a heavy police presence and residents were told to shelter in place in New Glasgow, N.S., Tuesday night after a possible sighting of a wanted man who may be armed. New Glasgow Regional Police responded to a property in the 300 block of MacDonald Street, near Stewart Street, around 8:30 p.m. The RCMP Emergency Response Team was also called to the scene. The RCMP said someone reported a sighting of 47-year-old Andrew Scott Barker, who is currently wanted on a provincewide arrest warrant. Officers contained the area, asked residents to stay in their homes, and told the public to stay away from the scene. Police closed several other streets – Chisholm, Nelson and the Pioneer Trail – before 10:30 p.m. as they expanded their investigation. Police opened the area and ended the shelter-in-place order before midnight. The RCMP says officers found and seized Barker's vehicle – a red Fiat – but they are still looking for the wanted man. The RCMP had issued a statement about Barker Tuesday afternoon, saying he was wanted on a provincewide warrant and warning that he may be armed. It also said he was driving a red Fiat. The Hants County man is wanted for the following offences: unlawful confinement assault assault with a weapon administer or cause drugs to be taken uttering threats robbery theft of a motor vehicle Barker is described as five-foot-11 and 170 pounds. He has green eyes, short brown hair and a beard. Police say Barker should not be approached if spotted and anyone who sees him should call 911. Andrew Scott Barker, 47, is wanted and charged with the following offences: unlawful confinement assault assault with a weapon administer or cause drugs to be taken uttering threats robbery theft of motor vehicle Police describe Barker as five-foot-11, 170 pounds, with green eyes, short brown hair and a beard. The force says they believe he is driving a red Fiat and warn he may be armed. The West Hants RCMP Detachment says attempts have been made to locate Barker and is requesting the public's help. Police ask anyone with information on his whereabouts to refrain from approaching him and to call 911, West Hants RCMP Detachment at 902-798-2207, or the police of jurisdiction in the area.
