World Championship semi-finalist handed 11-YEAR ban from darts for match fixing - and admits to placing 88 bets on matches

Former world semi-finalist Andy Jenkins has been slapped with an 11-year ban from darts for match-fixing. The 54-year-old was found guilty of fixing 12 matches between February 2022 and July 2023. Jenkins, who reached the last four of the PDC World Championship in 2007 and lost to eventual winner Raymond van Barneveld, also admitted placing 88 bets on matches. The Englishman's ban has been backdated to November 2023, when he was initially suspended, and will prevent him from playing until November 2034. Jenkins, who has won 15 career titles, has also been fined £17,580 and has until May 6 to appeal against the decision made by a Darts Regulation Authority disciplinary committee. 'This case sends a strong and unequivocal message to all sportspeople - if you fix matches, you are likely to be caught and face serious consequences,' said John Pierce, director of enforcement at the Gambling Commission. 'Betting customers in Britain deserve confidence that the markets they engage with are fair and free from corruption. 'Our sports betting intelligence unit will continue to work closely with partners such as the Darts Regulation Authority to identify and prevent match-fixing.'

Jenkins given 11-year ban over match fixing charges

April 30 (Reuters) - Briton Andy Jenkins received an 11-year suspension from darts after he was found guilty of charges relating to match fixing and gambling, the Darts Regulation Authority said on Wednesday. Jenkins, who denied the charges, was found guilty of all 24 charges of match fixing against him, and he also accepted one charge of betting on darts for which he was given a suspension of 12 months which will be concurrent with the 11-year ban. The 54-year-old, who reached the 2007 World Championship semi-finals, has also been ordered to pay costs of 17,580.03 pounds ($23,441). Jenkins has until May 6 to appeal the decision, and the DRA say there is no suggestion that other players from the matches in question were involved in any way. ($1 = 0.7500 pounds)

Andy Jenkins receives 11-year ban for match-fixing and betting violations in professional darts

Veteran darts player Andy Jenkins has been banned for 11 years and fined over £17,000 after being found guilty of match-fixing. A disciplinary panel from the Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) ruled that Jenkins manipulated the outcome of 12 matches between February 2022 and July 2023. Though Jenkins, 54, denied the match-fixing charges, he admitted to placing 88 bets on darts matches between March 2022 and May 2023—violating strict rules against player betting. The DRA issued an additional 12-month suspension for those offenses, which will run concurrently with the main ban. The ruling, backdated to November 2023, prohibits Jenkins from participating in any DRA-sanctioned events until November 15, 2034. John Pierce, director of enforcement at the Gambling Commission, emphasized the importance of maintaining integrity in sport. 'This case sends a strong and unequivocal message to all sportspeople: if you fix matches, you are likely to be caught and face serious consequences,' he said. He added that betting markets must remain 'fair and free from corruption.' Jenkins is best known for reaching the semi-finals of the PDC World Championship in 2007, where he lost to eventual champion Raymond van Barneveld. Over his career, he has claimed 15 titles. The ban marks a dramatic fall from grace for a player once considered among the sport's elite.

Darts player Andy Jenkins gets 11-year ban for fixing matches

LONDON (AP) — Andy Jenkins, a darts player who once reached the world championship semifinals, was banned from the sport for 11 years on Wednesday for match-fixing. The 54-year-old Jenkins was found guilty by a disciplinary committee of the Darts Regulation Authority of 24 charges of fixing relating to 12 matches in which he was involved at the Modus Super Series, a lower-tier competition, from August 2022 to July 2023. Advertisement The majority of the suspicious betting patterns reported to betting operators related to Jenkins not scoring a 180 — the maximum for three darts thrown. He had denied those charges, as well as those regarding providing information on the matches, but had accepted one charge of betting on darts. The suspension was backdated to start Nov. 15, 2023 and Jenkins can resume playing on Nov. 15, 2034. He was ordered to pay costs of 17,580 pounds ($23,500). Jenkins has won 15 career titles, the BBC reported, and got to the semifinals of the PDC world championship in 2007, losing to Raymond van Barneveld. John Pierce, director of enforcement for the Gambling Commission, said the case sent 'a strong and unequivocal message to all sportspeople.' 'If you fix matches, you are likely to be caught and face serious consequences,' Pierce said. ___ AP sports:
