Getafe preparing for Jose Bordalas exit as Sevilla consider Victor Orta dismissal

Getafe are seriously concerned that they may lose manager Jose Bordalas this summer, as Sevilla search for a successor to Joaquin Caparros, after both were confirmed safe last weekend. What kind of project Bordalas would have is another matter, with little certainty at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan beyond this weekend. Bordalas is reportedly the top choice to take over at Sevilla, although Sporting Director Victor Orta is in favour of pursuing Girona's coach Michel Sanchez: two vastly differing managers in terms of style. As per Cadena Cope, Bordalas' exit is not yet certain, but Getafe are concerned about losing him. Advertisement He has a contract for another year, but can leave Los Azulones for free for a 'bigger' club. Bordalas has started planning next season with President Angel Torres, but is debating whether to stay at Getafe or try a new experience at Sevilla, say Marca. It is added by Cadena SER that Bordalas is aware that the financial situation at Getafe will not improve much, and strengthening the squad will be just as difficult as last year. Getafe contact Basel manager Fabio Celestini Image via / Cordon Press In light of this scenario, Getafe have begun looking at replacements. They have already contacted Basel manager Fabio Celestini, who took the Swiss giants from the relegation zone to the title in the space of 14 months. He started off his managerial career, in the fourth tier in Italy, but has contructed a coaching reputation over the last decade in Switzerland with Lausanne, Lugano, Luzern and Sion before taking the job at St. Jakob's Park. Advertisement Other options on the agenda are Luis Garcia Plaza, after a strong stint at Alaves. Atletico Madrid legend Gabi, who started off coaching in the Getafe youth ranks, left earlier this season to try and guide Real Zaragoza to safety – something he could achieve this weekend. Gabi had also previously been considered as a potential Bordalas successor, and has a good relationship with Torres. Sevilla carrousel could continue with Victor Orta The position of manager has become something of a temporary position in recent seasons, with Caparros the seventh manager in three seasons. Orta has been in charge of appointing four of them, and his position is now insecure too. Sevilla are weighing up whether to sack him, have not yet taken a decision, and Orta is still working – he has more or less wrapped up the signing on a free of Celta Vigo forward Alfon Gonzalez. Tensions remain high in Nervion though.

A-League star striker cleared of raping woman

A-League soccer star Angel Torres has been acquitted of raping a young woman he took home from a nightclub. A NSW District Court jury in Gosford found the Central Coast Mariners striker not guilty of all charges against him on Friday after deliberating for three hours. Colombian-born Torres earlier testified he went to Sirens nightclub at Terrigal on the Central Coast just after midnight on March 24, 2024 with other Mariners players. He made eye contact with the woman, who was 21 at the time, and called her over. Torres, 24, said the woman used Google translate on her phone to help them communicate before they danced and kissed. He showed the woman his Instagram account, where he has more than 11,000 followers, and told her he played for the Mariners. "She was saying good things about me," Torres told the jury, speaking through a Spanish interpreter. "She said I had a nice smile and I smelt good." The footballer said he took the woman back to his home but denied raping her. The prosecution alleged Torres removed the women's belt and wrapped it around her neck in his bedroom and digitally penetrated her while she screamed "no, no no". He was also accused of grabbing and pushing her up against a wall for 45 seconds. When the woman managed to get outside, she sent a text at 2.44am to a friend saying "I need help", the court was told. Torres followed the woman and was accused of standing over her as she sat on the road before putting his hands on her, stopping her from getting up. The woman started screaming "help, help" and claimed Torres told her "you're going to ruin my career". Torres denied these allegations in court, having earlier pleaded not guilty to sexual intercourse without consent, aggravated sexual assault involving deprivation of liberty, intimidation intending to cause fear and two counts of assault. The striker was stood down from his role with the Mariners following his arrest in May 2024, after joining the team at the start of the previous A-League Men's season and netting 13 goals in 23 games.

Getafe President accused of lying after stoking anti-Catalan sentiment

Getafe President Angel Torres raised eyebrows this week, when he made comments about the treatment received in Girona, claiming he was insulted for being Spanish. Getafe came out victorious at Montilivi last Friday beating Girona 2-1. The incidents were aggravated when the Press Officer at Getafe threw a water bottle at fans during the game, something that Torres expressed sympathy for. 'They spent the whole game insulting him. The boy, making a mistake, because it was a mistake and he is sorry, threw an empty water bottle and it didn't hit them because he was thirty meters away. But they told the police and they fined him €3k. That's unfair,' he explained to Relevo. He continued on to claim that he was insulted due to anti-Spanish sentiment in the stands. 'Me, honestly I have a lot of patience. In the boxes I am an bar of ice, I don't move, I don't mess with anyone, but I can tell anecdotes, the one from the last game. In Girona we had all the problems with everyone. There was a person who I went to shake hands with to wish him luck and he told me that he didn't greet Spaniards. Then other things happened, but what this guy did to me is more serious.' According to the same outlet, this raised eyebrows across La Liga, with Girona have stood out for their warm treatment of other directors and presidents. Their sources in Girona say that this was not the case, and that while there was one person who did not shake hands with Torres, they were not part of the club, and at no point did any verbal exchange occur. A story that is corroborated almost word for word by Catalunya Radio. They go on to add that the person in question had grown tired of the provocations from the Getafe players and staff, who on various occasions pointed to the Spanish flag. Their information is that while they did ignore a handshake from Torres, the conversation related by Torres is 'an invention'. Undoubtedly Girona is one of the places in Catalonia where pro-independence support has been strongest recent years. By the same token, elements of centralist media in Spain have gone out of their way to stoke anti-Catalan sentiment, painting a picture of the region that has little to do with reality.
