Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado pays tribute to fallen soldiers
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) – All gave some, and some gave all. These famous words echoed through the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado, where hundreds gathered on Memorial Day in remembrance for those men and women in the military who made the ultimate sacrifice for their county. 'They signed a blank check to the United States and you, and they said you can use up to and including my life to ensure that we have these freedoms,' says Mesa County Commissioner Cody Davis. Commissioner Davis, Representative Matt Soper, and other keynote speakers offered heartfelt sentiments to the overflowing crowd, who watched in hushed reverence as honorary wreaths were gifted, bullets were fired, and even F-16C Fighters soared across the sky. Organizers say the overwhelming support from the Mesa County community comes at no surprise. 'Our community is very supportive of veterans in Mesa County,' says Angela Ingalls, cemetery director for the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado. 'They're very supportive of our veterans cemetery, and they take a lot of pride in it. So when we come together as a community, we pay our respects as a community, it feels pretty overwhelming.' For the families and fellow comrades of soldiers loved and lost, ceremonies like today provide a precious opportunity for the memory of their beloved heroes to live on forever.
