Miri woman fined RM2,000 for buying illegal lottery tickets

MIRI (May 19): A woman was fined RM2,000 by the Magistrates' Court after pleading guilty to possessing an illegal lottery ticket.
Angela Nyala, 34, from Promwin Jaya here, was charged under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953 and sentenced under the same section.
For this offence, the accused may be fined up to RM5,000 or imprisoned for up to six months, or both, upon conviction.
According to the facts of the case, the accused was found in possession of a piece of paper containing recorded 4D numbers, which were found to be illegal lottery numbers.
She was charged with committing the offence at 4pm, on Feb 26, at a lot on Jalan Lorong Desa Senadin 2C, Taman Desa Senadin here.
The case was prosecuted by Inspector Mudzilawati Abdul Rahman before Magistrate Ashok Linggam, while the accused was unrepresented. Court gambling illegal lottery
