Kyle Hendricks picks up career win No. 100 as Angels beat the Mariners 5-4
Kyle Hendricks earned the 100th win of his career, Ryan Zeferjahn, Reid Detmers and Kenley Jansen combined for three innings of scoreless relief, and the Los Angeles Angels held on for a 5-4 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Friday night. Hendricks (3-6) gave up four runs and eight hits in six innings, striking out two and walking two. The 35-year-old right-hander escaped a jam in the fifth inning. With runners at second and third with two outs, Hendricks got Randy Arozarena to ground out. Zeferjahn retired the side in order in the seventh, Detmers struck out two of four batters in the eighth, and Jansen threw a 1-2-3 ninth for his 13th save. Right-hander Bryce Miller (2-5) gave up five runs and six hits in five innings for the Mariners, who have lost four straight. The Angels scored twice in the fifth to take a 5-4 lead. Jo Adell got hit on the helmet by a 94-mph fastball and stole second. Chris Taylor followed with an RBI double and Nolan Schanuel adding an RBI single. Taylor, the veteran utility man who was signed after the Dodgers released him on May 18, also singled with two outs, stole second and scored on Zach Neto's RBI single for a 1-all tie in the third. Travis d'Arnaud followed Jorge Soler's two-out single with a two-run homer for a 3-3 tie in the fourth. The Mariners scored once in the third on J.P. Crawford's RBI single and twice in the fourth on Rowdy Tellez's sacrifice fly and Leody Taveras' RBI groundout. Key moment Julio Rodriguez jumped high above the wall to rob Taylor of a potential two-run homer to end the sixth. The Seattle center fielder teased Angels fans who thought the ball was gone by taking several steps on the warning track before flipping the ball from his glove to his throwing hand. Key stat Detmers, the converted starter who had a 10.05 ERA through 12 appearances this season, has allowed one earned run in 12 innings of his last 11 games, striking out 17 and walking seven in that span. He has lowered his ERA to 5.81. Up next RHP Luis Castillo (4-3, 3.03 ERA) will start Saturday for the Mariners. RHP Jack Kochanowicz (3-7, 5.34 ERA) will pitch for the Angels.

Angels manufacture run in 10th inning to beat Red Sox, 4-3
BOSTON (AP) — Automatic runner Zach Neto scored on Taylor Ward's bases-loaded double play groundout to lift the Los Angeles Angels to a 4-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox in 10 innings on Tuesday night. Nolan Schanuel had two RBIs and Neto added two hits and an RBI to give the Angels consecutive wins for the first time since capping an eight-game win streak on May 23. Kenley Jansen (1-2) pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up the win a night after getting a save and Reid Detmers got his first save. Schanuel led off the 10th with a sacrifice bunt that was bobbled by reliever Zack Kelly (1-2), allowing Neto to advance to third. Mike Trout then walked to load the bases. Kelly went 3-0 to Ward before he grounded into the double play. But it allowed Neto to score to put the Angels in front. Ceddanne Rafaela had two RBIs for Boston. Jarren Duran also had an RBI. Los Angeles starter Yusei Kikuchi pitched five innings plus three batters, allowing three runs off eight hits with five walks. He also struck out five, including his 900th major league strikeout. Boston's Brayan Bello ended a five-game streak of not making it through at least five innings. He lasted six innings, allowing three runs off seven hits. Key moment With Boston trailing 3-1 in the sixth, Trevor Story led off with a walk. Rafaela then jumped on Kikuchi's 89 mph slider, driving it 426 feet over the Green Monster for his fifth homer of the season. It was Kikuchi's final hitter of the night. Travis d'Arnaud's tiebreaking homer in 8th leads Angels over Dodgers 6-4 for 3-game sweep
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Travis d'Arnaud broke an eighth-inning tie with his first home run of the season, and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Dodgers 6-4 on Sunday for their first three-game Freeway Series sweep since 2010. With the score 4-4, d'Arnaud homered off left-hander Anthony Banda (3-1) for his second RBI of the game. The Angels added a run in the ninth on singles by Zach Neto and Nolan Schanuel followed by Yoán Moncada's double-play grounder. Shaun Anderson (1-0) got his first Angels win, giving up a tying three-run homer in the seventh to Will Smith and then retiring the side in order in the eighth and ninth. He ended the game by getting Shohei Ohtani to swing over a changeup for strike three. Angels left-hander Yusei Kikuchi gave up one run and three hits and struck out seven in 5 2/3 innings before hurting his right ankle in a collision at first base with Tommy Edman. Dodgers right-hander Tony Gonsolin cut his right thumb on his fifth pitch, blood stains visible on the back of his uniform pants. Logan O'Hoppe drives in five as Angels outlast Dodgers, 11-9
May 18 - Logan O'Hoppe hit a home run with a career-high five RBIs as the Los Angeles Angels held on for an 11-9 victory at Dodger Stadium Saturday. Dodgers' left-hander Clayton Kershaw made his season debut following multiple offseason surgeries. Taylor Ward and Matthew Lugo also hit home runs and Kenley Jansen recorded four outs for the save against his former team, his eighth. Reid Detmers (1-2) gave up a run in two innings and earned the win. The Angels clinched their first series victory at Dodger Stadium since taking a two-game set in 2019. The visitors won 6-2 on Friday and the series wraps on Sunday. Kershaw gave up five runs on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts, while fighting rust in his first outing since Aug. 30 of last season. Andy Pages and Enrique Hernandez hit home runs for the Dodgers and Freddie Freeman added four hits. O'Hoppe's go-ahead three-run home run in a five-run seventh came off right-hander Kirby Yates (3-2), who later departed with a hamstring injury. Soler and Kevin Newman also had RBI singles in the inning. The Dodgers pulled within 10-9 on RBI singles from Rushing in the seventh and Max Muncy in the eighth. Kochanowicz limits Dodgers, and Angels turn 5 double plays in 6-2 win in Freeway Series opener
Jack Kochanowicz tossed one-run ball over 6 2/3 innings, Yoán Moncada hit a two-run homer and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-2 in the Freeway Series opener Friday night. The last-place Angels led 2-0 on Moncada's homer on his first pitch from Dustin May in the first inning. May hit Matthew Lugo and Tim Anderson back-to-back before Zach Neto's two-run double to left extended the lead to 4-0 in the fourth. Kochanowicz (3-5) allowed one run, struck out five and walked four in winning back-to-back starts for the first time this season. The Dodgers closed to 4-2 on Shohei Ohtani's 16th homer off Ryan Zeferjahn in the eighth. Max Muncy's RBI double provided their first run. The Angels answered with Nolan Schanuel's two-run single that made it 6-2 in the ninth. May (1-4) gave up four runs and six hits in five innings. He struck out eight and walked two. Moncada left after irritating his right thumb injury in the top of the ninth. Key moment The Angels turned four of their five double plays behind Kochanowicz, who owns the second-highest groundball rate in the American League since July 11, 2024. The double plays tied a Dodgers record and were the most by an opponent since Aug. 7, 2015, at Cincinnati.
