Angola, Cattaraugus, Westfield awarded millions by state
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Three Western New York communities have been awarded millions of dollars in awards through New York State, Governor Kathy Hochul's office said.
Th Village of Cattaraugus has been awarded $10 million, while the Villages of Westfield and Angola have each been awarded $4.5 million. The awards come through the state's Downtown Revitalization Initiative.
Cattaraugus plans to use the funds in order to improve its red brick Main Street into a community gathering space. Westfield hopes to use the funds in order to revitalize its village, and Angola will use the funds to improve the downtown, using opening of the new Angola Theater as the anchor. The theater, which opened in 1924, closed in 2020 and plans to re-open this year.
'This funding will enable us to revitalize our infrastructure, support local businesses, and enhance the overall quality of life for our residents and visitors,' Cattaraugus mayor Anthony Nagel said.
'The NY Forward grant reflects New York State's steadfast commitment to supporting small communities like ours, fostering growth, and driving meaningful progress,' Angola mayor Thomas Whelan added. 'We are honored to be a recipient of this initiative and eager to put these funds to work for the betterment of our village.'
The three villages will now begin work with local planning committees to determine the development process.
