Ranchi dist launches karate training for KGBV students

Ranchi: Ranchi district administration, in coordination with the district welfare department, rolled out a karate training programme for the students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) under the 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Yojana'. In the first phase, 350 girl s of KGBV, Kanke, were given training and 23 of them received their orange belt on Wednesday. It will now be expanded to all KGBV schools, said officials. A student of KGBV-Kanke, Anjali Ganguli, said, "This programme is a powerful step toward fostering strength, awareness, and independence in us. We gain courage to face challenges." Self-defence and physical training programmes such as karate, martial arts, judo, and taekwondo are being provided to girl students from classes VI to XII in 60 govt schools across the district. KGBVs are new inclusion, said sources. These sessions are being carried out under the Rani Laxmi Bai Training Scheme, named in honour of the legendary freedom fighter and warrior queen. " The programme includes practical techniques to tackle common threats such as physical assault, molestation, and harassment. It also emphasises raising awareness among students about personal safety and teaching them to identify and respond to potentially dangerous situations.
