Nagpur's Samit, Anjali, Shravani, Hingna's Krish and Kamptee's Ayesha take day 1 honours

1 2 3 4 5 6 Nagpur: Track and field athletes from Nagpur district, including Samit Tong , Anjali Madavi , Shravani Sangle , Ayesha Sharique, and Krish Mule, utilised their home conditions well to clinch the opening day honours in the Maharashtra U-20 selection trials , which began at the Nagpur University Athletics track on Sunday. While Nagpur runners Samit and Anjali dominated the 3000m steeplechase race in the men's and women's sections, Shravani sealed the 400m hurdles race. Kamptee's Ayesha clinched the first position in the discus throw event, and Hingna's Krish ruled the roost in the hammer throw competition. From the two-day selection trials organised by Nagpur District Athletics Association, the Maharashtra state team for the forthcoming junior nationals will be selected. In the men's 3000m steeplechase, Samit, son of experienced coach Ravindra Tong, representing Track Star Athletics Club, won the first position with a timing of 9:27.72 minutes. He was followed by Shahaji Sargar (9:48.26) and Rahul Lavate (9:55.57). Similarly, in the women's steeplechase race, Anjali Madavi clocked 12:46.81 to prevail over Chetna Madkami (13:36.13), who finished the race almost a minute behind the Nagpur runner. In the 400m women's hurdles, city's Shravani Sangle clocked 1:06.23 seconds to get the better of Leena Kohale (1:06.57). However, Nagpur's Sanyogita Misar of Nav Maharashtra Krida Mandal had to settle for second place in the 100m hurdles. Sanyogita (15.92 seconds) finished behind Leena (15.52). In the discus throw women's competition, Ayesha Nasim Sharique from Kamptee's Ummiraj Academy demonstrated her prowess by achieving the best throw of 31.36 metres. She trains under Amit Thakur. Ayesha previously secured a gold medal with a throw of 31.00 metres at the Maharashtra State Inter-University Sports Festival. Krish Mule from HTKBS Hingna clinched first place in the hammer throw event when he covered a distance of 39.43 metres. Krish practises under Rajesh Bhute. In the men's shot put event, Abhimanyu Kushwaha from Khel Foundation secured second place with a throw of 16.54 metres. Earlier, the competition was inaugurated by international athlete Prajakta Godbole. Maharashtra Athletics Association's representative Rakesh Save was present. On the occasion, NDAA President Gurudev Nagral, organising committee chairman Shekhar Suryavanshi, Umesh Naidu, Vivekanand Singh, Ravindra Tong, Jitendra Ghordadekar, Ramchandra Vani, Archana Kottewar, Ganesh Vani, and organising committee secretary Sharad Suryavanshi were present.
