"Will this dysfunctional group tear themselves apart, or find redemption and unite as something much more before it's too late?" it adds. USA TODAY's Brian Truitt gave the film ★★★ out of four, writing Jake Schreier's directorial work is "one of the better recent outings for a cinematic universe that's been dealing with creative wobbles." "The satisfying adventure features side players from past projects like 'Black Widow' and 'Ant-Man and the Wasp' coming into their own, plus skillfully juggles bleak darkness and inspired humor in a surprisingly moving exploration of mental health," his review said. Ant-Man Star Doubts He'll Return to MCU
star Michael Douglas doesn't think he'll be returning to the MCU. Douglas made his MCU debut as Hank Pym in 2015's Ant-Man. He then went on to reprise the role in 2018's Ant-Man and the Wasp and 2019's Avengers: Endgame before returning for 2023's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which is the last time that MCU fans have seen his character. Speaking with Deadline, Douglas was asked if he was interested in reprising his role as Hank another time for a future Marvel movie. 'I don't think so. I had the experience, and I was excited to do it. I'd never done a green screen picture before,' he answered. 'I did the The Kominsky Method because I wanted to work with Chuck Lorre and try some comedy. But I'm enjoying my hiatus and enjoying my life. It was overwhelming running the production company and acting at the same time.' This means that Hank probably won't be showing up in Marvel Studios' Avengers: Doomsday, which is currently in production and will be released in 2026; however, it has been confirmed that Paul Rudd's Scott Lang/Ant-Man will be featured in the movie. Whether or not Avengers: Doomsday will mark the end of Rudd's character's MCU journey or if he'll also return for the 2027 sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, remains to be seen. Douglas, meanwhile, recently starred as Benjamin Franklin in an Apple TV+ miniseries that premiered in April 2024 titled Franklin. He and his son, Cameron Douglas, have also filmed a drama movie together titled Blood Knot, which is directed by Roberto Sneider. The movie does not yet have a release date, as Douglas told Deadline that it's currently 'looking for distribution.' All three Ant-Man movies are currently available to stream on Disney+. Michael Douglas Confirms He's Done With the MCU After Four Films — GeekTyrant
Michael Douglas is officially hanging up the lab coat. After playing Hank Pym in four Marvel movies over nearly a decade, the actor says he's stepping away from the MCU. In a recent interview with Deadline, Douglas made it clear that his Marvel movie chapter has come to a close. When asked whether he might return as the original Ant-Man, he responded: 'I don't think so. I had the experience, and I was excited to do it. I'd never done a green screen picture before. I did The Kominsky Method because I wanted to work with Chuck Lorre and try some comedy. 'But I'm enjoying my hiatus and enjoying my life. It was overwhelming running the production company and acting at the same time.' Douglas first appeared as Hank Pym in Ant-Man (2015), playing mentor to Paul Rudd's Scott Lang. He reprised the role in Ant-Man and the Wasp , briefly Avengers: Endgame , and most recently, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in 2023. His character brought a sharp, cranky charm to the series. But, with Quantumania underperforming and the future of the Ant-Man solo series uncertain, Douglas seems content with calling it a day. At 80, he's earned the right to pick his battles and focus on things that bring him joy outside of the Marvel machine. Still, his departure leaves a bit of a gap. Paul Rudd is confirmed to return in Avengers: Doomsday , but with Evangeline Lilly and Kathryn Newton's futures still unannounced, it's unclear how much of the Ant-family we'll see again.

Marvel's Thunderbolts Mints $162 Million At Box Office Over The Weekend
Thunderbolts' post-credit scenes tease the anti-heroes in the future. Marvel's latest cinematic offering—Florence Pugh and Sebastian Stan starrer Thunderbolts—has finally opened in theatres, making clean moves at the box office. With a strong start, the film ignited to collect $76 million in the US, going a little slower than usual Marvel releases, which generate at least $100 million to start. All eyes were set on Thunderbolts, which brings to the fore a team of antiheroes like Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes, Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova, Wyatt Russell's John Walker, and David Harbour's Red Guardian, among others. With similar results as the debuts of The Eternals ($71 million) and Ant-Man and the Wasp ($75 million), it is yet to be seen if Thunderbolts will make a large stride at the box office. As per Entertainment Weekly, the film has brought in $162 million globally. Despite being far from becoming the strongest opener in MCU history, it has made a solid lead on other Marvel films like The Eternals ($71 million) and Ant-Man and the Wasp ($75 million). On the other hand, Thunderbolts' domination at the weekend box office has surpassed Ryan Coogler's Sinners, bringing an end to its undefeated run over two weeks. As of now, Thunderbolts has finished the weekend with $162 million, amassing $86 million from international markets, according to a Variety report. Made on a budget of $180 million and another $100 million to market, it is yet to be seen if Thunderbolts will make a large stride at the box office. About Thunderbolts The Marvel film centres around a group of anti-heroes forced together by Valentina Allegra for a dangerous mission. While struggling with their past traumas and inner struggles, the group manages to pacify Bob and deal with The Void, only to find themselves being introduced as the New Avengers in the post-credit scenes. With that said, while the main Thunderbolts cast is set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, it is still unclear what roles they will have in the sequel. Marvel's 'Thunderbolt' storms box office with £60m debut – but but can the movie rescue a fading franchise?
Marvel's 'Thunderbolts' has tops box office but doubts linger over whether the movie has enough magic to inject new life into the franchise Marvel Studios' latest superhero entry 'Thunderbolts' has powered to the top of the US box office with a £60 million ($76 million) opening weekend – a solid start, but still short of the fireworks once expected from the comic book giant. The antihero team-up film, led by Florence Pugh, David Harbour and Sebastian Stan, kicked off the summer movie season by hitting No.1, studio estimates confirmed Sunday. But the numbers fall just shy of Marvel's blockbuster glory days. Fans and insiders alike had hoped 'Thunderbolts' would help return Marvel to form following a string of underwhelming releases. But its debut performance echoes 2021's 'Eternals' ($71 million) and 2018's 'Ant-Man and the Wasp' ($75 million), rather than mega-hits like 'Avengers: Endgame.' That said, the film has earned praise. Unlike recent Marvel outings, 'Thunderbolts' scored a strong 88% 'fresh' rating on Rotten Tomatoes and earned an impressive 'A-' from CinemaScore, indicating audiences are enjoying it. 'This is a great reset,' said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for Comscore. 'They're hitting the reset with 'Thunderbolts.' The great reviews and the word-of-mouth should hold it (in) good stead.' Directed by Jake Schreier, the movie teases Marvel's next chapter with a nod to the upcoming 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps,' due out July 25. Marvel shelled out about $180 million to produce the film, which added another $86.1 million in overseas ticket sales. Still, competition at the box office proved tough. Ryan Coogler's vampire drama 'Sinners,' which had ruled cinemas for the past two weeks, pulled in another $33 million in its third weekend – just a 28% drop. The 1932-set thriller, starring Michael B. Jordan in a dual role as bootlegging brothers, has now grossed nearly $180 million domestically and over $236 million globally. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. claimed third spot with its hit 'A Minecraft Movie.' The video game adaptation brought in $13.7 million over the weekend and has now racked up £698 million ($873.4 million) worldwide. The studio even added 'Block Party Edition' screenings to keep the hype alive, complete with sing-alongs and 'meme-along' sessions for TikTok-hungry fans. One of the most talked-about releases was 'Rust,' which finally arrived in theatres more than three years after cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was tragically killed on set. The Alec Baldwin western grossed around $25,000 across 115 cinemas, according to estimates, though no official box office figures were released. The film's release follows a legal saga: Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer, was sentenced to prison for involuntary manslaughter, while first assistant director David Halls received probation after a no-contest plea. Charges against Baldwin were dismissed twice, in 2023 and again in 2024. As part of a wrongful death settlement, Hutchins' husband Matt Hutchins became an executive producer on the film. Elsewhere, 'The Surfer,' starring Nicolas Cage, made a modest splash with £540,000 ($674,560) from 884 cinemas. Here's the full rundown of the weekend's Top 10 films at the North American box office: 'Thunderbolts' – $76 million 'Sinners' – $33 million 'A Minecraft Movie' – $13.7 million 'The Accountant 2' – $9.5 million 'Until Dawn' – $3.8 million 'The Amateur' – $1.8 million 'The King of Kings' – $1.7 million 'Warfare' – $1.3 million 'Hit: The Third Case' – $869,667 'The Surfer' – $674,560
