I also urged the CM to bring in reforms in the police force in Dakshina Kannada and the CM was in favour of them," the MLC said. Appreciating the govt's decision to set up Special Action Force (SAF) for Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Shivamogga districts, D'Souza said the force will be able to stop provocative speeches and communal crimes in the region. The MLC expressed his support for the creation of the Anti-Communal Task Force and said he requested the Chief Minister to establish its headquarters in Mangaluru. D'Souza acknowledged certain shortcomings within the police force concerning the recent killings, noting that police do not understand the 'vision' of the govt. District minister Dinesh Gundu Rao will visit the district and conduct a peace meeting, he said. On allegations of the BJP that the district minister failed to give enough time for Dakshina Kannada, D'Souza said Rao attended all Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) meetings and showed real concern for the district's development. Following the mass resignation of Muslim leaders from the Congress, the MLC expressed distress regarding the developments. Karnataka to set up anti-communal task force, says State Home Minister Parameshwara
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], May 14 (ANI): Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Wednesday said that the state government has decided to establish an anti-communal task force within the police department to tackle criminal and communal violence in the state. Parameshwara stressed the need for such a unit to curb rising polarisation and maintain societal peace. Minister Parameshwara said that he has directed the state's Director General of Police to submit a proposal for the initiative. Speaking to mediapersons, Parameshwara said, 'We have taken a decision to constitute an Anti-Communal Force, within the police department. When the naxal activity was there, we created an Anti-Naxal Force. Similarly, we want to make an Anti-Communal Force to see that the society is peaceful. The polarisation is already taking place here and there. We want to see that all those things will be put at rest. I had told our Director General of Police to send out a proposal regarding that.' Earlier, Karnataka Home Minister Parameshwara said that the task force will take strict action against those who support or promote communalism. 'This task force will operate separately in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. The Anti-Communal Task Force will take strict action against those who support or promote communalism,' he added. Minister Parameshwara added that the task force will also investigate past communal riots. 'The soon-to-be-formed Anti-Communal Task Force will investigate past communal riots. Going forward, the police will take strict action against those who make provocative statements. No matter how influential a person is, the police will take action. Even if they are political leaders, action will be taken against them,' he added. Earlier, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge had slammed the BJP over its criticism of the state government's proposed Anti-Communal Task Force and accused the party of fostering communal tensions in the state. 'Whatever the BJP wants to do, let them be held accountable for it. How did places like Mangaluru's Karavali and the coastal belt become a laboratory for Hindutva?' Kharge asked. (ANI)

"Whatever they want to do, let them be held accountable...": Karnataka Minister slams BJP's stance on 'Anti-Communal Task Force'
ANI 06 May 2025, 17:50 GMT+10 Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], May 6 (ANI): Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge has slammed the BJP over its criticism of the state government's proposed Anti-Communal Task Force and accused the party of fostering communal tensions in the state. 'Whatever BJP wants to do, let them be held accountable for it. How did places like Mangaluru's Karavali and the coastal belt become a laboratory for Hindutva?' Kharge asked. 'How many BJP members are being murdered? It is the poor and backward communities who are getting caught up in this. Why is this vicious cycle of revenge killings happening? Because they (BJP) bred this,' he added. He was answering a query on BJP's criticism of the proposed Anti-Communal Task Force to be set up by the state government. Karnataka Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara had said that the state government will set up Anti-Communal Task Force (ACTF) in the wake of incidents of communal violence in Dakshina Kannada and Udipi districts. He said ACTF would be set up on the lines of the Anti-Naxal Force. Parameshwara said on Saturday that eight people have been arrested in connection with the Suhas Shetty murder case. 'Around eight people involved in the murder of Suhas Shetty have been arrested. For many years, the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have drawn the attention of the state and the nation due to incidents rooted in communal tensions. This time, too, after the incident, it was feared that communal tensions would resurface, but the police did not allow that to happen,' Parameshwara said at a press conference. 'We will not tolerate any kind of communal forces. Our government is committed to maintaining peace in the area. We are actively investigating these incidents. We will establish an Anti-Communal Task Force similar to our anti-Naxal force. This will be a separate wing with comprehensive authority to address communal activities and those who support them. We have instructed officers to take strict action against anyone who delivers provocative speeches or statements,' Parameshwara added. (ANI)

Suhas Shetty murder: Karnataka to form anti-communal task force to quell unrest in coastal belt
G Parameshwara MANGALURU: In response to a spate of recent communal disturbances in coastal Karnataka, home minister G Parameshwara Saturday announced the formation of a dedicated Anti-Communal Task Force for Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. The unit, he said, will function exclusively in these two districts to check communal tensions and maintain public order. After a law and order review meeting at the Mangaluru City police commissioner's office, Parameshwara said the specialised force would be modelled on the Anti-Naxal Force (ANF), with which it would also share resources and training. "Those involved in inciting or supporting communal violence will be dealt with firmly. The force will be headed by a senior officer of the rank of Inspector General of Police (IGP). Its structure, personnel strength, and operational framework will be finalised soon. As of now, there is no need for such a force in other districts. If the situation demands, we will consider it later," he said. The move follows rising communal tensions in the coastal belt, often marked by incidents of hate speech, moral policing, and targeted violence. The proposed task force will coordinate closely with local police to ensure swift preventive action and crackdown on hate-mongering. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like New Container Houses Vietnam (Take A Look At The Prices) Container House Search Now Undo As Naxal-related incidents have sharply declined in Karnataka, Parameshwara said the state is now looking at downsizing the ANF and redirecting its experienced personnel to the new unit. "Most of the Naxals surrendered in Karnataka, and the activity almost came to a standstill. However, ANF will not be entirely disbanded. The trained personnel and other officers will be absorbed into the new anti-communal task force," he said. When asked about the earlier Anti-Communal Wing, which handled cases of moral policing, the minister said it was not a standalone force. "It was merely a wing operated by the existing police personnel and not a dedicated task force," he said. 'The govt has decided to act against those behind communal riots with the new force. Evil forces will not be allowed to disrupt peace. Those who engage in communal violence, regardless of their community or religion, will face strict action. For the well-being of the state and the nation, such incidents should never recur. We will take all possible steps within the legal framework. Our goal is to ensure that peace in the coastal region,' said G Parameshwara, home minister.
