Trump jokes his admin will 'forget about' separation of church and state: 'We're bringing religion back'
President Donald Trump joked that his administration could end the separation of church and state on Thursday, saying they are "bringing religion back to our country." Trump made the statement during a speech at the White House celebrating the National Day of Prayer. He touted the White House's faith office and its leader, Paula White. Trump began by thanking White for serving in her role as senior advisor to the faith office, remarking that his other advisors had questioned the move. "They said separation of church and state, they told me. I said let's forget about that for one time. We said, really? Separation? Is that a good thing or a bad thing? I'm not sure," Trump said. It will also collaborate with the Department of Justice on identifying constitutional religious liberty protections. The order came just one day after Trump signed another aimed at creating a task force to identify "anti-Christian bias." "The Office" star Rainn Wilson pushed back on MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle for suggesting that President Donald Trump's win and Elon Musk's "media machine" were to blame for overall distrust in the press. "President Trump won and tons of people were shocked or angry or frustrated and they're tuning out, and at the same time, you have the Elon Musk media machine, because they want you to leave traditional media, they want you to go to X, which is a bastion of misinformation," Ruhle said during an appearance on Wilson's "Soul Boom" podcast released on April 17. "What we need to do is just cover what's happening in America, right? We have to cover Democrats trying to figure out what their lane is and how they're going to get back on their feet, and we have to simply cover what this White House is doing." However, Wilson suggested there was a lack of interest among left-leaning media to aggressively cover problems during the Biden administration. "I remember her answer was, 'Well we had this immigration bill and Donald Trump blocked it.' And she's right, she's right. Donald Trump did block the bill, but that doesn't address how people in the country feel," Ruhle said. Ruhle did question Harris' role in helping with the border crisis as she was tasked by former President Biden to deal with the root causes in 2021. "How about the message from our Vice President?" Trump pauses enforcement of law criminalizing foreign bribery: ‘In practicality, it's a disaster'
President Donald Trump has paused the enforcement of a law that criminalizes American businesses that bribe foreign officials in an executive order signed on Monday. The order, which directs the Department of Justice (DOJ) to stop enforcing the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), is intended to further American economic growth by eliminating excessive barriers to American commerce abroad. "It sounds good on paper, but in practicality, it's a disaster," Trump said about the FCPA. "It means that if an American goes over to a foreign country and starts doing business over there illegally, legitimately or otherwise, it's almost a guaranteed investigation indictment. And nobody wants to do business with the Americans because of it," Trump continued. Trump Administration Appeals Ruling Blocking Birthright Citizenship Order According to the DOJ, the FCPA was enacted in 1977 to make it "unlawful for certain classes of persons and entities to make payments to foreign government officials to assist in obtaining or retaining business." Enforcing the FCPA also "actively harms American economic competitiveness and, therefore, national security," the order states. "President Trump is stopping excessive, unpredictable FCPA enforcement that makes American companies less competitive," a White House fact sheet stated. "U.S. companies are harmed by FCPA overenforcement because they are prohibited from engaging in practices common among international competitors, creating an uneven playing field." "The title is so lovely, but it's an absolutely horror show for America," Trump said.
