Oman commited for a mine-free world

Geneva: The Sultanate of Oman has reaffirmed its unwavering stance on the principles underpinning the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention and its commitment to constructive cooperation with the international community to support efforts aimed at protecting civilians and enhancing human security. This came during Oman's participation in the meetings of the Twelfth Preparatory Session for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, held in Geneva, Switzerland, with broad participation from member states, as well as representatives of relevant international and humanitarian organisations. Ambassador Idris Abdulrahman Al Khanjari, Oman's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organisations in Geneva, delivered Oman's statement during the opening session of the meetings. He emphasised Oman's firm position on the convention's foundational principles and announced that the Sultanate of Oman has fulfilled all obligations outlined in Article 5 of the treaty, reflecting its full commitment to implementing the convention's provisions and cooperating with its enforcement mechanisms. The Ministry of Defence was represented in the meetings by an official delegation that comprised Captain Khalid Abbas Al Balushi and Colonel Mohammed Al-Kaabi. The delegation followed the technical sessions and discussions on action plans and ways to enhance international cooperation in mine clearance efforts. Oman's participation in these meetings underscores its steadfast commitment to humanitarian principles and its continued dedication to the convention's objectives. It also reflects the country's belief in the importance of collective action toward achieving a mine-free world, in line with the 'Siem Reap – Angkor 2025–2029' action plan. -ONA
