Speaker Berri briefed by Housing Bank Chief on upcoming loan agreement with Abu Dhabi Fund
The Chairman and General Manager of the Public Housing Bank, Antoine Habib, met with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri in Ain al-Tineh on Wednesday evening to brief him on the positive outcome of the bank's meetings with the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development. The meetings were led by Abdullah Al Mansouri, the Fund's Regional Director for Asia, who visited the bank following a recommendation by UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan after his meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun in Abu Dhabi. The UAE leader encouraged the Fund to provide subsidized loans to the Public Housing Bank to help Lebanese citizens secure decent housing. The recent Lebanese-Emirati presidential meeting is expected to soon lead to a cooperation agreement between Lebanon and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development. This will be followed by a loan agreement between Lebanon's Council for Development and Reconstruction and the Fund, to be implemented by Banque du Liban. During the meeting, Speaker Berri expressed his deep gratitude to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed for standing by the Lebanese people, and voiced appreciation and support for the Public Housing Bank's efforts to help citizens access or restore their homes.

Abu Dhabi Fund delegation visits Beirut to discuss subsidized housing loans for Lebanese families

The visit focused on strengthening cooperation, with discussions centered on providing subsidized loans to the bank to support Lebanese citizens in purchasing or renovating homes. In a statement, the bank said both sides were in full agreement and decided to hold follow-up meetings in Abu Dhabi to explore the proposal in detail. The participants also expressed appreciation to Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, thanking them for the fruitful discussions held in Abu Dhabi that paved the way for this visit and future collaboration on affordable housing loans.

Antoine Habib to LBCI: Housing Bank sees spike in loan applications after presidential election
Antoine Habib, Chairman and General Manager of the Housing Bank, confirmed that loan applications have significantly increased since Joseph Aoun was elected president, noting that many applications came from non-resident Lebanese looking to buy, build, or renovate homes in Lebanon. Speaking on LBCI's "Nharkom Said" TV show, Habib said the presidential election and the formation of a new government have renewed hope for the Lebanese people. Regarding the Qatari loan, he stated: "We expressed interest in loans aimed at low- and middle-income individuals and requested specific loans for people with special needs," adding that "we are currently in the negotiation phase."

Antoine Habib discusses housing loans for Lebanon with Qatar and Abu Dhabi officials
The Chairman and General Manager of the Housing Bank, Antoine Habib, visited the Head of the Council for Development and Reconstruction, Nabil El-Jisr, at his office on Tuesday. Habib briefed El-Jisr on the outcomes of his meetings in Qatar the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Director of International Cooperation at the ministry, the Director-General of the Qatar Fund for Development, and the Deputy CEO of Qatar National Bank. The meetings focused on the possibility of securing housing loans for low- and middle-income Lebanese, as well as loans for the reconstruction of homes damaged during the recent Israeli war on Lebanon. The discussion also covered the Lebanese government's request, made by the Council for Development and Reconstruction on June 13, 2024, to the Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development for a loan to be allocated to the Housing Bank to provide loans for low-income Lebanese. This initiative aims to ease the social crisis, strengthen the diaspora's connection to Lebanon, and stimulate the economy, particularly in the construction sector. The Lebanese government is still awaiting a response from the Qatari regarding this request. El-Jisr expressed his support for the Housing Bank's projects and his openness to any future coordination and collaboration to help provide decent housing for low- and middle-income citizens.
