Lecce 1-1 Venezia: Baschirotto rescues a point in dogfight
Serie A | Lecce 1-1 Venezia: Baschirotto rescues a point in dogfight
Lecce came back from an Antonino Gallo own goal to hold Venezia 1-1 with Federico Baschirotto's header, but will still see this as a disappointing relegation dogfight result.
Both teams were in the bottom four and feeling the pressure in this huge clash at the Stadio Via del Mare. Hans Nicolussi Caviglia returned from suspension for the visitors, but Michael Svoboda, Alfred Duncan, Mirko Maric and Filip Stankovic missed out.

Ylber Ramadani, Tete Morente and John Yeboah had efforts from distance, while Federico Baschirotto was inches away from opening the scoring by redirecting a set play.
However, it was Venezia who took the lead after the restart, when Alessio Zerbin's free kick was flashed into the six-yard box, so in an attempt to anticipate Christian Gytkjaer, Antonino Gallo accidentally shinned it into his own net.

Lecce thanked another defender for the equaliser, also from a set play routine, as Baschirotto shrugged off his marker to nod in a corner.
Daniel Fila almost managed to pounce on a dangerous Berisha back-pass for Wladimiro Falcone.

Lecce nearly turned it around completely on 79 minutes, when Konan N'Dri saw his effort bounce off the inside of the near post, roll along the face of goal and back out again, set up for him by Nikola Krstovic.
Ionut Radu was also decisive to keep out a Baschirotto free header from point-blank range, while the penalty appeals were waved away because the ball struck Fali Candé on the chest first and then ricocheted onto his arm in a natural position.
Baschirotto was crucial at both ends, because in stoppages he threw himself in the way of Gaetano Oristanio's counter-attack. Despite coming back to grab a point, ending a run of five consecutive defeats, Lecce were loudly jeered by the home fans at the final whistle.
