Accountant held for students' fees fraud
Lucknow: An assistant accountant at Babu Banarasi Das University (BBDU) was arrested on Friday for embezzling students' semester fees by issuing a fake RTGS receipt instead of depositing the amount with the college. "Anupam Shukla, 25, a resident of Bharatipuram Colony in Tiwariganj, was arrested near the Juggar railway bridge," said DCP Crime Kamlesh Dixit. He further said that the matter came to light after a student, Aman Singh submitted a written complaint at BBD police station alleging that he had paid Rs 60,000 in cash to Anupam Shukla as his semester fee on May 21, 2025. "Instead of issuing a proper cash receipt, the accused provided a fake RTGS/NEFT receipt. The fraud was exposed when the college later informed Singh that his fee was still unpaid," the student said . The BBDU spokesperson, Kamil Rizvi, said, "We fear that over 80 students have been duped by the accused, and an internal committee has been formed to check the technical records." TNN

Ambedkar Nagar targets 11,000 solar installations under PM Surya Ghar Yojana
District Magistrate Anupam Shukla scrutinised the implementation of the PM Surya Ghar Yojana with the vision of installing solar rooftop power plants on 11,000 UP Ambedkar Nagar houses. At a Collectorate meeting, Shukla instructed all government departments to create action plans to set up solar power plants on their Project Officer informed us that the government aimed to install solar power plants on 11,000 houses under the scheme. The DM directed DIOS, BSA, DPR, DSA, CMO, DDO, SDMS, and BDOs to achieve targets for maximum installations of solar rooftop power Shukla asked officials to make people aware and get their participation. He also instructed the Superintending Engineer and Executive Engineers of the electricity department to organise coordination with vendors and consumers so that the implementation goes smoothly. The DM pointed out the subsidies given under the scheme by the government, focusing on its target of solarising one crore houses and bringing down electricity bills. He explained that the scheme provides a subsidy for solar RTS and power plant installation, and free electricity using solar program is designed to encourage the utilisation of solar energy and reduce the cost of electricity for households. Advantages are savings on electricity bills, optimal use of roof space, low maintenance, reduced roof temperature during severe heat, and minimised carbon emissions. The meeting was attended by Chief Development Officer Anand Shukla and other officials and PM Surya Ghar Yojana is not just about installing solar panels; it is about creating a future where every home can become self-reliant in energy use. With strong steps like those being taken in Ambedkar Nagar, Uttar Pradesh is showing the way for a cleaner, greener India.
