Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar ranked as No. 50 college football player in 2025 Tennessee will kick off its 2025 football season Aug. 30 against Syracuse. The season opener is slated for noon EDT at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. ABC will televise the 2025 Aflac Kickoff Game. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound quarterback played at Appalachian State from 2023-24 after transferring from Diablo Valley Community College. He completed 511-of-850 passing attempts for 6,760 yards, 56 touchdowns and 24 interceptions, while totaling 456 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 140 attempts. Aguilar recorded at least 200 passing yards in all 24 starts with the Mountaineers. He had four passing touchdowns in four different contests, and 22 touchdown passes were either to tie a game or give his team a lead. Aguilar earned 2023 Cure Bowl MVP and Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year honors. At Diablo Valley Community College from 2021-22, he totaled 2,992 passing yards and 21 touchdowns. Jordan Marsh, the Big South's newcomer of the year last season, is transferring to Southern California. The guard spent last season at UNC Asheville, where he averaged 18.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 32 games. Marsh began his college career at Appalachian State, where he played in 32 of 34 games off the bench as a freshman. "Jordan excels on the open floor and is a defensive disruptor with his ability to create steals," USC coach Eric Musselman said Tuesday. "He is a tremendous athlete who will be an exciting player at USC with his elite quickness." Marsh is the eighth player to sign with the Trojans during the offseason.

Jets release K Greg Zuerlein after difficult 2024 season
May 16 - The New York Jets released veteran kicker Greg Zuerlein and signed defensive end Michael Fletcher on Friday. Zuerlein, 37, struggled with injuries and accuracy in 2024, the former Pro Bowler's third season with the Jets. He missed nine games with knee issues and made only 9 of 15 field-goal attempts and 13 of 14 extra points. Zuerlein converted 65 of 75 field goals (86.7 percent) in his first two seasons with New York. Over 13 seasons, he made 82.2 percent of his field goals (338 of 411) and 95.6 percent of his PATs (395 of 413). Zuerlein played for the St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams (2012-19) and Dallas Cowboys (2020-21) before joining the Jets. The Jets created $2.4 million in salary cap savings by releasing "Greg the Leg," who has a $2.3 million dead cap hit for 2025. They have kickers Anders Carlson and Caden Davis on the roster. Fletcher was undrafted in 2025.
