What to Know About the Apple Class Action Lawsuit—and How You Can File a Claim
Apple users—specifically those who use Siri through products such as Macbooks, iPhones, and Apple TVs—may be entitled to make a claim after Apple's class action lawsuit settlement, worth $95 million dollars, regarding the voice-activated assistant. The settlement comes from a lawsuit filed in 2021 by Californian Fumiko Lopez, who claimed that Apple, via Siri, conducted 'unlawful and intentional interception and recording of individuals' confidential communications without their consent and subsequent unauthorized disclosure of those communications.' 'Apple intentionally, willfully, and knowingly violated consumers' privacy rights, including within the sanctity of consumers' own homes where they have the greatest expectation of privacy,' the lawsuit stated. 'Plaintiffs and Class Members would not have bought their Siri Devices, or would have paid less for them, if they had known Apple was intercepting, recording, disclosing, and otherwise misusing their conversations without consent or authorization.' In 2019, Apple published a statement titled "Improving Siri's privacy protections," in which they said they hadn't "been fully living up" to their "high ideals" and vowed to issue improvements. Apple agreed to the settlement on Dec. 31, 2024. According to the settlement website: "Apple denies all of the allegations made in the lawsuit and denies that [they] did anything improper or unlawful." The website also provides information about who is eligible to file a claim and the deadlines they need to adhere to. Here's what you need to know about how you can file a claim: Who is eligible to file a claim? People eligible to make a claim include those who owned or purchased a Siri device—which includes the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, MacBook, iMac, HomePod, iPod touch, Apple TV—between Sept. 17, 2024 and Dec. 31, 2024. They must have 'purchased or owned a Siri Device in the United States or its territories and enabled Siri on that device.' According to the settlement agreement, eligible parties also should have 'experienced an unintended Siri activation during a confidential or private communication.' Those not eligible include Apple employees, legal representatives, and judicial officers assigned to the case. How can you make a claim and when is the deadline? Claimants can submit a claim form via the settlement website, and can submit claims for up to five Siri devices. The deadline to make a claim is July 2, 2025. This is also the deadline to opt out of the payment, which would allow the customer to keep their right to bring any other claim against Apple arising out of, or related to, the claims in the case. Some of those eligible to make a claim may have received a postcard or an email—with the subject line 'Lopez Voice Assistant Class Action Settlement'—notifying them about the settlement. This correspondence would likely include a Claim Identification Code and a Confirmation Code. Per the settlement website, people can use these codes when making a claim, but eligible Apple customers who haven't received any correspondence can still file a claim. When can you expect to receive payment? On August 1, 2025, the courts are due to host a final approval hearing, but there could still be appeals. Payments will only be issued after any appeals are resolved. The settlement website is set to keep customers updated on timings and payment schedules, as and when that information is available.

Here's how to file a claim in Apple's $95 million Siri settlement
Consumers who own a Siri-enabled device — including iPhones, MacBooks and AppleTVs — may be eligible to file a financial claim as part of Apple's $95 million settlement over allegations that the voice assistant eavesdropped on them. The settlement stems from a 2021 lawsuit filed by Fumiko Lopez, a California resident who owned several Apple devices, and other consumers who alleged Siri listened to private or confidential conversations. Those discussions were then allegedly shared with third-party businesses, such as restaurants and clothing brands, that then targeted Lopez and other consumers with ads in Apple search and its Safari web browser, the lawsuit claims. "Apple denies all of the allegations made in the lawsuit and denies that Apple did anything improper or unlawful," the settlement website states. While Apple agreed to the settlement earlier this year, consumers can now file claims to get a piece of the $95 million agreement. Here's what to know. Who is eligible to make a claim? People who owned Siri-enabled iPhones and other Apple devices between Sept. 17, 2014, and Dec. 31, 2024, and who "experienced an unintended Siri activation during a confidential or private communication," are eligible to file a claim, according to the settlement website. Those devices include: iPhone iPadApple WatchMacBook iMacHomePod iPod touchApple TVHow much could I get from the Apple settlement? It will depend on how many people file claims, but the settlement website notes that there's a cap of $20 per Siri-enabled device. That means a consumer who owns an iPhone, a MacBook and Apple Watch could receive as much as $60, for instance. You can file a claim for up to five Siri-enabled devices, for a maximum payout of $100, according to the settlement site. How do I file a claim? Some consumers received an email or postcard notifying them of the Apple settlement, along with a claim ID number and confirmation code. Recipients of those emails or postcards can use the claim ID and confirmation code to submit a claim at the settlement site by July 2, 2025. But if you didn't get an email or postcard but believe you qualify for the settlement, you can still file by clicking on "new claim" on the same link. You'll be prompted to enter info such as your name, address and proof of purchase of the Apple device that qualifies you for the settlement. When could I get the settlement payment? Not until later this year at the earliest. The settlement's final approval hearing is scheduled for August 1, 2025, at 9 a.m., but there could be an appeal that would delay the payout, the settlement website notes. "If there is no appeal, your settlement benefit will be processed promptly. Please be patient," it states. How would I receive the payment? When you submit your claim, you'll be asked if you want the payment to be sent via physical check, e-check or direct deposit. Josh's mom on making a move What will Pope Leo XIV mean for the Church? Diddy's former assistant exposes 'Wild King Nights' parties in 'The Fall of Diddy' docuseries
Sean 'Diddy' Combs' former assistant, Phil Pines, is shedding light on the infamous 'Wild King Nights' parties in an extended episode of Investigation Discovery's The Fall of Diddy docuseries. In a pre-recorded interview that airs following the conclusion of the four-part documentary on Tuesday night, Pines discusses the extravagant and controversial sex parties, which often involved young and impressionable women. Combs, who is currently being held in a Brooklyn federal jail while awaiting his May trial on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, allegedly instructed Pines to gather an extensive list of items—including specific lighting, drugs, baby oil, sex toys, and other materials—before these private gatherings. 'We usually had a laundry list of items that included lights, alcohol, marijuana, ketamine, Molly. You have mushrooms on the top there … baby oil and astroglide [lubricant] are very important; candles, incense, Apple TVs, electronics, computers, iPads. Obviously there was, you know, male libido supplements, stuff like that,' Pines tells journalist Mara S. Campo during the 30-minute sit-down, which concludes the four-part docuseries on Combs and has been viewed by *The Hollywood Reporter.* Pines, who served as Combs' senior executive assistant from 2019 to 2021, stated that while he never personally witnessed the so-called 'freak-offs,' these events are expected to play a major role in Combs' upcoming criminal trial in New York City. However, he did discuss the *Wild King Nights* parties, which were typically held in hotels and featured groups of young women who, he alleged, were easier to manipulate. 'A lot of times, there were girls that were under the radar, didn't have a lot of influence. I think that speaks to the type of situations people were put in. A lot of times, you have [Combs] with a young female, and there's a power dynamic there. A more impressionable girl is easier to reel in, as opposed to somebody who might be a celebrity who's not going to do too much of that, or give some pushback,' Pines explained. He noted that the young women he saw at these events were mostly in their 20s. When asked whether Combs was simply partying like a rap star, as his lawyers have claimed, he responded, 'Look, there's partying and then there's a party.' At the same time, Pines admitted that he was not present in the *Wild King Nights* rooms frequently enough to determine whether those participating in the drug-fueled orgies had given proper consent. However, he recalled one instance where a visibly distressed young woman had to be escorted back to her hotel.
