Shopee user buys $127 camera but receives Pikachu toy instead, seller's account frozen
A woman purchased a security camera on Shopee, but ended up receiving a plush toy instead.
Stomper Serene ordered an Aqara G3 Smart Camera on Shopee for $127.62 and was shocked when she opened her parcel to see a palm-sized Pikachu plush toy.
The parcel was delivered to her home on June 5 by SPX Express.
She told Stomp that she was already suspicious the moment she picked up the parcel: "It felt way too light for something like a smart camera, which should come with proper packaging and weight. That immediately raised red flags for me."
She decided to record the unboxing and weigh the parcel just in case there was an issue with the product, and her suspicions turned out to be true.
"The parcel only came up to 153g, which is far too light for a proper smart camera with packaging," Serene recounted.
She theorised that the item may have been swapped or tampered with before reaching her home: "The label on the box had my name and address, but the contents were completely wrong. I feel scammed and frustrated."
Serene contacted Shopee for a refund, which was granted in under 24 hours.
Stomp understands that the seller's account has been frozen for further investigation.
Still, Serene has lingering questions.
She added: "There was no explanation regarding what exactly went wrong. There was no clarification on whether it was due to a seller issue, tampering, or an error during delivery."
The Stomper urged everyone to be wary when shopping online and receiving items from delivery services.
"I'm glad I captured everything on video, and I strongly encourage others to do the same when receiving expensive or high-value items.
"I want the public to be aware that these kinds of incidents can happen. We must all stay vigilant when receiving parcels."
