What is the Japan Typica Natural? The Japan Typica Natural is a rare and exquisite speciality coffee cultivated on Okinawa Island, Japan, specifically at the Nakayama Estate. This estate, managed by Mr. Tatsumi Kishimoto and his family since 2015, is among the approximately 20 coffee farms on the island. They produce Arabica Typica and Mundo Novo varietals, all processed using the natural method, which involves drying the whole coffee cherries under the sun, allowing the beans to absorb the fruit's sugars and flavours. Grown at an elevation of 150 meters above sea level, the Nakayama Estate's Typica beans are renowned for their smooth profile, featuring subtle earthy hints, notes of spices, bright acidity, and layers of fruity, juicy tones. Due to the limited coffee-growing regions in Japan, the Japan Typica Natural is considered one of the rarest and most expensive coffees globally. First Published: May 30, 2025, 11:04 IST
