Hong Kong's Ginnie Ding ‘super excited' to be part of women's LIV-like golf series

Women's golf has moved another step closer to its own version of LIV, with the revamped Aramco Team Series getting a new name, more money and a global schedule that takes in the UK, United States and China. Advertisement Gone are the amateurs, with teams of professionals also competing for an individual prize over three rounds. This week, that involves the likes of defending team champion Danielle Kang, last year's individual winner Kim Hyo-joo, Bronte Law and Hong Kong's Ginnie Ding battling it out at the Aramco Korea Championship. If that format sounds familiar, the only things really missing at New Korea Country Club in Seoul are team names. While the US$2 million in prize money is significantly less than in LIV Golf, it is still among the highest in the women's game. Announcing the move on Thursday, Golf Saudi and the Public Investment Fund (PIF), which backs LIV Golf and the International Series on the men's Asian Tour, said the five tournaments on the Ladies European Tour would now form the PIF Global Series. Korea is the second stop of the year, with the PIF Saudi Ladies International in February having marked the start of a series that will also take in the PIF Championship at the Centurion Club outside London, the Aramco Houston Championship and the Aramco Shenzhen Championship at Mission Hills. Two-time Solheim Cup player Alison Lee announces birth of her first child, a son

Two-time Solheim Cup player Alison Lee announces birth of her first child, a son Two-time Solheim Cup player Alison Lee shared on Instagram that she and boyfriend Trey Kidd welcomed their first child, a son, born April 25. The 30-year-old Lee, a two-time winner on the Ladies European Tour, helped the U.S. defeat Europe in last year's Solheim Cup. Lee went viral at the event on Saturday after she holed a wedge shot and her caddie took off his shirt to settle a bet. Currently No. 47 in the world, Lee made her last start in November at the Aramco Team Series event in Saudi Arabia. The LPGA's maternity policy gives moms two years from the date of the baby's birth to return to playing. Lee told Golfweek last year she and Kidd were introduced by a mutual friend near the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. Kidd, a former college player at Colorado State who now works in finance, played off a plus-3 handicap at the time. If Lee plays from the back tees, she doesn't give him any strokes.

LPGA star Charley Hull's biggest goal in 2025 is to shave six minutes off her 5K time

LPGA star Charley Hull's biggest goal in 2025 is to shave six minutes off her 5K time Charley Hull was asked ahead of the PIF Saudi Ladies International about her No. 1 goal for the season. Her answer didn't actually have anything to do with golf. "I want to try and get my 5K run time down to 20 minutes by the end of the year," said Hull. "It's around 26 minutes at the moment." The world No. 11, who currently sits in a share of 20th at Riyadh Golf Club, went on to explain that she has zero interest in training for golf. "I don't want to just be a golfer," said Hull. "I want to be an athlete. I train because it's good for my mental health, and it's good for me. I just enjoy it as a hobby." Hull, who won in Riyadh last fall at the Aramco Team Series finals, sits at 8 under for this week's event after two rounds, five strokes behind leader Jeeno Thitikul. The Thai star, who leads by three, shot 67-64 to open her 2025 season. This year's event featured a new team format. The teams, which were drafted ahead of the event, competed over the first two days for a $500,000 prize. A cut was then made to the top 60 and ties to compete for the remaining $4.5 million purse. Somi Lee's team won the team competition. Players who missed the cut include No. 3-ranked Ruoning Yin, Moriya Jutanugarn and Danielle Kang.
