Where do the DOGE stimulus checks stand?
Even though the Trump administration has weighed the option, the possibility of taxpayers getting a stimulus check from tech billionaire Elon Musk or the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) remains uncertain. Trump's campaign has reportedly teased the idea of the checks in a funding email to supporters, according to MeidasTouch Network's Archive of Political Emails. Here is what you need to know about a potential DOGE check. What is the DOGE stimulus check? President Trump has previously endorsed the idea of sending 20 percent of the commission's savings back to taxpayers as a 'DOGE dividend' in the form of $5,000 stimulus checks. In its efforts to cut waste, fraud and abuse from the federal government, DOGE has a savings goal of $2 trillion. So far, DOGE claims it has saved an estimated $160 billion, equal to about $993.79 per taxpayer. Who would qualify for the checks? Any potential stimulus check would only be sent to households that are net-income taxpayers, meaning they pay more in taxes than they get back. Lower-income Americans may not be able to qualify for the stimulus checks. The checks would only be issued per household rather than each individual taxpayer, including those receiving Social Security benefits that meet the income tax requirements.

Are we any closer to DOGE checks? Trump fundraiser emails suggest they are a possibility
The possibility of payouts from Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency, a.k.a. DOGE checks, remains uncertain as the process must receive multiple approvals before it's sent out to Americans. Still, the Trump campaign has reportedly teased the idea of DOGE checks in funding emails to supporters, according to MeidasTouch Network, which kept the messages in its Archive of Political Emails. The publication notes that the emails, while not outright guaranteeing the $5,000 payments, heavily mention DOGE checks, with messages like "Do you want a DOGE check?" and "It's your money anyway, I'm just giving it back to you." Does this mean we're closer to DOGE checks? Here's what we know. Not exactly. Elon Musk says President Trump and Congress must first approve DOGE checks before they are sent out, which hasn't happened yet. Even so, the checks may not be the full $5,000, as originally proposed by James Fishback, CEO of the investment firm Azoria. Fishback says that the check amount may be less than the entire if DOGE doesn't meet its original savings goal of $2 trillion, and might be even lower if DOGE saves less. "So again, if the savings are only $1 trillion, which I think is awfully low, the check goes from $5,000 to $2,500," Fishback said on a podcast. "If the savings are only $500 billion, which, again, is really, really low, then the [checks] are only $1,250." Even with Congressional approval, the likelihood of DOGE checks reaching $5,000 grows more slim by the day. On its website as of April 23, DOGE claims to have saved $160 billion, which amounts to $993.79 saved per taxpayer. The numbers are said to come from federal grants, leases, and contract terminations.
