Turkey rallies for 2-1 win in friendly against US, which loses 3rd straight under Pochettino
EAST HARTFORD, Conn. — Turkey took advantage of a sloppy defense to beat the United States 2-1 in a rainy friendly on Saturday, dealing the Americans their third straight loss as Arda Güler and Kerem Aktürkoğlu scored in a 2-minute, 20-second span midway through the first half. Jack McGlynn scored 59 seconds in for the U.S., which was missing many regulars as coach Mauricio Pochettino revamped his roster following a dismal performance at the CONCACAF Nations League final four in March . With a year to go before co-hosting the World Cup, the U.S. plays Switzerland on Tuesday at Nashville, Tennessee, in another friendly, then opens the CONCACAF Gold Cup against Trinidad and Tobago on June 15. The Americans dropped to 5-4 under Pochettino , who took over after first-round elimination last year's Copa America led the U.S. Soccer Federation to fire coach Gregg Berhalter . They have lost three straight for the second time in a year . Pochettino changed eight starters from the Nations League loss to Canada in March , keeping only left back Max Arfsten, winger Diego Luna and forward Patrick Agyemang. Defender Alex Freeman, a 20-year-old son of former NFL All-Pro receiver Antonio Freeman, started in his U.S. debut. Matt Freese, a starter at Major League Soccer's New York City, made his debut in goal. Matt Turner, the usual starter since 2022, didn't play for Crystal Palace after March 1. McGlynn scored when he ran onto a pass from Malik Tilman, took several touches, cut inside and curled a left-footed shot from just outside the penalty area inside the far post for his second goal in five international appearances. It was the earliest U.S. goal since Shaq Moore scored 20 seconds in against Canada during the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Turkey tied it in the 24th minute when Freese tapped the ball to Johnny Cardoso, whose pass ricocheted off a leg and past Freese for Güler's fifth international goal. Then in the 27th, Miles Robinson tried to clear Oğuz Aydın's shot and the ball went to Aktürkoğlu, who one-timed a bouncing shot past Freese for his 12th international goal and sixth in eight games. Turkey goalkeeper Berke Özer also made his international debut. Preparing for the start of its World Cup qualifying campaign in September, Turkey has six wins, one loss and one draw in its last eight games. ___ AP soccer:

Mbappé nets brace in Real Madrid win ahead of 'El Clásico'
netted twice as edged out Celta Vigo 3-2 in a nervy finish at the Bernabéu. Arda Güler opened the scoring just after the half-hour mark. The Turkey international played a quick one-two with Lucas Vázquez from a short corner before curling a brilliant left-footed effort into the top corner from a tight angle. Madrid's second came not long after, when Jude Bellingham lofted a perfectly weighted pass over the top for Mbappé, who coolly slotted it past the keeper. Just three minutes into the second half, Güler turned provider with a sharp through ball, and Mbappé calmly fired in his second. Celta Vigo weren't done though - Javi Rodríguez pulled one back in the 69th minute, and Williot Swedberg added another shortly after, setting up a tense finish. But Carlo Ancelotti's side stood firm to see the game out and take the win. With this win, Los Blancos remain four points behind LaLiga leaders Barcelona, who they face in next weekend's El Clásico.

Brahim Díaz Linked with Summer Exit as Real Madrid Plan Squad Reshuffle
Brahim Diaz could be among the players to leave Real Madrid this summer, with the club open to offers as they seek to raise €200m in transfer funds. The 25-year-old has struggled for regular minutes this season and has seen his role diminish further following the emergence of Arda Güler. Club officials are reportedly considering a sale in the region of €60m, according to Fichajes. Díaz has expressed a desire to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu, but Madrid are preparing to reshape their squad ahead of the 2025-2026 campaign and may look to offload fringe players to balance their finances. Real Madrid is reviewing the futures of three players — including Brahim Díaz, Rodrygo Goes, and Andriy Lunin — as the club targets key reinforcements during the summer transfer window, especially in the back line. Diaz has registered six goals and seven assists from 48 games across competitions and is under contract until 2027. Several players continue to be linked with Real Madrid ahead of a potential summer rebuild. Erling Haaland remains a long-term target for the Spanish club, although his agent, Rafaela Pimenta, has dismissed recent speculation suggesting the Manchester City striker could join Madrid if Vinicius Junior leaves the club. 'People like to talk and there will always be rumours,' Pimenta said, adding that she never comments directly on transfer speculation. Meanwhile, reports indicate that Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen favours a move to the Bernabeu. However, despite interest from Real, journalist David Ornstein reports that Premier League clubs are currently leading the race for the 20-year-old, who has a reported $55m release clause.
