Traffic in the south end of Barrie will flow a little smoother along a busy section of Essa Road with the official opening of the northbound ramp to Highway 400 on Thursday. Barrie police posted to social media Thursday morning to notify motorists the ramp under the 400 bridge had opened, and the temporary on-ramp to the highway that required a left turn at the lights at Fairview Road was no longer. That area is now a through lane. Last month, the Fairview Road carpool lot was reopened and the Ardagh Road carpool lot was closed for crews to continue work along Essa Road. It is expected to reopen by the end of July. The project consisted of constructing a new interchange at Essa Road and Highway 400 and widening Essa Road from four lanes to six from Bryne Drive to Fairview Road to improve traffic flow. The Essa Road interchange and Highway 400 overpass replacement project is being led by the Ministry of Transportation.
