Assam Rifles, Police seize brown sugar, illegal areca nuts in coordinated ops
Senapati (Manipur) [India], May 21 (ANI): Assam Rifles, along with local Police, conducted a successful search operation in Mao Gate in Senapati District as part of ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking. According to a release, the operation led to the apprehension of two individuals suspected to be involved in illegal narcotics activities. During the operation, 38 soap cases containing brown sugar were recovered. As per the release, the total weight of the seized narcotics is approximately 442 grams with an estimated value of Rs 89.40 lakhs. This successful joint operation reflects the steadfast commitment of Assam Rifles and the Manipur Police in combating the drug menace and maintaining peace and security in the region. Meanwhile, based on specific intelligence Assam Rifles and the Customs Preventive Force recovered 327 bags of illegal Areca Nuts worth 1.83 crores on Monday that had been dumped and concealed in the jungle near Chhungte village in Champhai district, an official statement said. The recovered contraband was subsequently handed over to the Customs Preventive Force, Champhai, for further investigation and necessary legal action. Earlier, as well Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Customs Preventive Force, Champhai, seized illegal areca nut valued at Rs 1.02 crore from Tlangsam in Mizoram's Champhai district, the statement added. According to a release, acting on specific intelligence of the movement of Illegal Areca Nuts in the general area of Tlangsam, Champhai, Assam Rifles and Customs Preventive Force, Champhai, launched an Area Domination Patrol towards Tlangsam village on May 2. During the operation, 187 bags of illegal Areca nuts were found concealed in a truck. During the operation, one individual was also apprehended. The recovered contraband, along with the person and the vehicle, have been handed over to the Customs Preventive Force, Champhai, the release stated. (ANI)

Assam Rifles seize heroin of over Rs. 90 lakhs in Mizoram
Champhai (Mizoram) [India], May 19 (ANI): The Assam Rifles, along with officials from Champhai's Excise and Narcotics Department, recovered heroin worth Rs 90.02 lakhs from the general area of New Champhai in Champhai district, Assam. The joint operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs about the movement of narcotics in the area. An Area Domination Patrol was carried out towards New Champhai village, during the heroin was seized. The seized narcotics have been handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department, Champhai, for further legal action. Earlier on Monday, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a major narcotics seizure and said that heroin worth Rs 3.16 crore was recovered and a drug peddler has been arrested. In a post on X, CM wrote, 'Based on secret information, @GuwahatiPol intercepted a vehicle en route from Silchar to Guwahati and recovered 395.67 grams of heroin worth Rs 3.16 crore and 1 drug peddler arrested. Assam remains relentless in its crackdown on drug networks. 'Earlier, Assam police carried out two major drug bust operations in Kokrajhar and Golaghat districts of the state, arresting three people and seizing substantial quantities of marijuana and heroin. In a post on X, CM Sarma confirmed major drug busts by the Assam Police. According to the CM, three people were arrested in Golaghat with 512.58 grams of heroin worth Rs 3 crore being seized too. In Kokrajhar, police seized around 963 kilograms of marijuana. 'Major Drug Busts by Assam Police. In two separate operations, Golaghat police seized 512.58g of heroin worth Rs3 crore and arrested 3 people. Kokrajhar police seized 963.19 kg of ganja.
