Disturbing photos show yet another Pixel 6a melting due to battery overheating
Arielle / Android Authority TL;DR Android Authority was contacted by a reader who saw their Google Pixel 6a melt due to an overheating battery — a trend plaguing A-series Pixels for some time now. was contacted by a reader who saw their Google Pixel 6a melt due to an overheating battery — a trend plaguing A-series Pixels for some time now. The photos show a completely destroyed phone that could have caused a house fire if the owner hadn't been there to stop it. Google is issuing a Pixel 8a as a replacement for the user. The A-series of Pixel phones is where Google launches its mid-range takes on premium Pixel flagships. They end up being some of the best Android phones you can get. While the series has been rightfully lauded for packing incredible Pixel-exclusive features into inexpensive hardware, a more disturbing trend has plagued the line recently: overheating batteries that literally melt the phone. Recently, Arielle, an Android Authority reader, reached out to us with photos of a Google Pixel 6a that had been totally destroyed in just such an event. As with other similar situations, Arielle's Pixel 6a was charging with a non-OEM charger when it sounded off an overheating alert. This happened while she was sleeping at around 4:00 AM, which woke her up. However, this warning sound didn't give her much time, as Arielle heard a popping noise immediately after and smelled burning. Rushing to the phone, she found that it was already too late, as the device's case had melted into her clothes, the display had separated from the chassis, and the internal components had all been destroyed. Check out the photo gallery below to see the damage. Google Pixel 6a melting photos Arielle purchased the phone through Google Fi in 2023. Once she had made sure the device wouldn't burn down her house, she contacted Fi support to explain the situation. After going through hours of chats, including sharing the above photos with various representatives, she was eventually told that a specialist would be reaching out to her. In the late evening that same day, Arielle received the email you see below: Arielle / Android Authority The email says that Arielle will receive a Google Pixel 8a as a replacement. This is interesting considering the Pixel 9a is the newer and better device. For someone whose phone literally melted while she slept, you'd think Google would provide the latest and greatest in the A-series — or even a Pixel 9 Pro. Regardless, we're happy that Arielle and her family are safe and that no significant damage occurred to her home. However, based on this event and previous similar ones, it's becoming clear that if you own a Pixel 6a, you should think about upgrading sooner rather than later. Likewise, we're surprised Google hasn't already done a recall, considering the high potential of an event like this causing some serious damage to someone's life or property. Got a tip? Talk to us! Maui doctor pleads not guilty to attempted murder on Oahu hike
HONOLULU (KHON2) — A Maui doctor accused of trying to kill his wife during a hike on Oahu is now pleading not guilty. At his arraignment and plea, Gerhardt Konig appeared by video from from OCCC where he's being held without bail–something his attorney is already fighting. HPD arrests man who allegedly tried to murder wife 'It's pretty commonplace in attempted murder and murder cases over the last 10 years that some degree of bail would be set. We see no reason why this case would be any different, especially given the fact that Dr. Konig has no prior record,' said Thomas Otake, Konig's attorney. Konig has been indicted on attempted murder for allegedly trying to kill his wife, Arielle, while on a hiking trail in Nuuanu last month, which led to an hours-long manhunt for the doctor. In a TRO filed by Arielle, she claims her husband accused her of having an affair. The petition details the attack on the hike, where Konig allegedly tried to shove her off a cliff, attempted to inject her with two syringes and then struck her multiple times on the head with a rock.'There are two sides to every story, and thus far, only one side has been shared. The other side to this story will be shared within the court process at the appropriate time,' Otake said in a statement. In setting bail, the court looks at public safety and risk of flight as factors. Defense attorneys say the court upholding no bail for an attempted murder charge is uncommon and they argue, is illegal. Defense attorney Victor Bakke said prosecutors originally set bail when Konig was arrested and charged. Waikiki man tries everything to rescue deceased neighbor's cat 'They set bail at $5 million which they were supposed to do, but then they took the case to the grand jury and they indicted him through that process, and then they asked the judge to set it from $5 million up to no bail, and they did that without any hearing, and it's completely illegal, and the court shouldn't allow it,' Bakke said. 'The defendant has to be given an opportunity to argue against a no bail determination, and he hasn't been given that opportunity. So it's completely illegal. He's being illegally detained right now under Hawaii law.' Konig's attorney plans to ask the court to revisit the issue of bail as early as next week. For now, Konig is being held pending trial, which is currently set for June 9. Arielle Konig has asked through her attorney that no details about her be shared publicly, at least for now. She has a hearing on her restraining order in a Maui courtroom this Friday. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Doctor's Wife Granted Restraining Order Over Attempted Murder
Originally appeared on E! Online Arielle Konig is taking legal action. The 36-year-old has filed for—and been granted—a restraining order against her husband Gerhardt Konig amid his arrest for attempted murder after he allegedly beat her with a rock and attempted to throw her off a cliff during a hike in Hawaii. In her petition, obtained by NBC News and viewed by E! News, Arielle detailed Gerhardt's alleged March 24 attack, which Arielle says involved dragging her towards the cliff's edge, trying to inject her with 'an unknown substance' via a syringe and hitting her 'repeatedly on the head' with a nearby rock. 'I am fearful that if Gerhardt is released from custody, he will return to Maui and attempt to harm or kill me, as well as harm or kill our children or other family members,' Arielle—who shared kids Olin, born in 2020, and Viggo, born in 2023, with Gerhardt—wrote. 'I am requesting this Temporary Restraining Order for the protection of myself, my children, and my family. More from E! News, with the presiding judge writing, 'the Court finds there is probable cause to believe that a past act or acts of abuse have occurred, or that threats of abuse make it probable that acts of abuse by the Respondent may be imminent.' The document also noted of Gerhardt, 'The court also finds the Respondent owns, intends to obtain or possesses a firearm/electric gun (e.g., stun gun, Taser) and that the firearm/electric gun may be used to threaten, injure or abuse a person.' The restraining order prevents Gerhardt from contacting Arielle, threatening or physically abusing her, coming within 100 feet of her or within 100 yards of where she lives, works or goes to school. The order also applies to their children, Olin and Viggo, as well as Arielle's mother and stepfather and Gerhardt's son from a previous relationship, Emile, who lives with Arielle. According to Arielle's petition, she says Gerhardt FaceTimed Emile in the time between him fleeing the site where he allegedly attacked Arielle and his capture by police hours later. Of the alleged FaceTime, Arielle wrote, 'Gerhardt was observed to be covered in blood. Gerhardt said 'I just tried to kill Ari but she got away,' and told Emile that he wanted to kill himself by jumping off a cliff.' Gerhardt was charged with attempted murder in the second degree upon his arrest and is currently being held on bail for $5 million. In a statement shared with E! News, Arielle's lawyer said, 'Arielle is focusing on her recovery at home in Maui with the support of her family. She kindly asks that the media and the public respect their privacy during this time.' E! News previously attempted to contact a lawyer for Gerdhardt but was unable to find representation. (E! Hawaii Doctor Accused of Trying To Kill Wife Had 'Extreme Jealousy'
A doctor who allegedly tried to kill his wife by pushing her off a cliff in Hawaii harbored "extreme jealousy" and once accused her of having an affair ... at least according to his spouse. Gerhardt Konig -- a 46-year-old anesthesiologist who works on Maui -- is accused of trying to murder his wife Arielle last month during a scenic stroll on Oahu. He was charged Wednesday with second-degree attempted murder -- prosecutors say he attacked his wife at the famous Pali Lookout -- and on Thursday she filed for court-ordered protection. Arielle claims Gerhardt was prone to "extreme jealousy," accused her of having an extramarital affair in December and was "attempting to control and monitor" all of her communications ... according to the restraining order, obtained by TMZ. She says they married in 2018 and have two children ... but were going to couples therapy and counseling in an effort to salvage their marriage. She said they traveled from their home on Maui to Oahu for her 36th birthday and that's when he allegedly attacked her. Arielle says her husband suggested hiking a trail near Pali Lookout, and when she refused to take a selfie with him on the hike, Arielle claims he went berserk ... allegedly trying to push her off the cliffside trail. She also claims he punched her, smashed her with a rock, and tried to jab her with syringes. She says it's unclear what was in the syringes but in the docs, she notes her husband has access to "potentially lethal medications as part of his employment." Arielle also claims her husband called one of his children from another marriage on FaceTime after the alleged attack and told them, "I just tried to kill Ari, but she got away." Gerhardt is being held without bail ... and his wife says she fears for her and their kids if he's released.

Hawaii Doctor's Wife Tried to Escape Multiple Times While He Attacked Her on 1,200-Foot Peak: Affidavit Claims
An engineer whose anesthesiologist husband is charged with attempted murder reportedly tried to escape him several times during his alleged attack atop a famous hiking spot in Hawaii, police say. Arielle Konig, 36, survived the March 24 incident when her husband, Gerhardt Konig, allegedly tried to throw her off a cliff in Oahu, Hawaii, PEOPLE previously reported. Arielle accused Gerhardt, her husband of seven years, of pushing her after she refused to take a photo with him during their hike on a trail at the Pali Lookout, a 1,200-foot peak, according to an affidavit obtained by PEOPLE. While on the hike, Gerhardt asked to take a selfie with Arielle but, given how close to the edge Gerhardt was, she did not feel comfortable, she told investigators. When she tried to walk away, Gerhardt yelled at her, she alleged. When she refused a second time, he allegedly 'pushed her into the bushes' and a struggle ensued, the affidavit states. Arielle initially managed to escape, but he allegedly attacked her again — hitting her on the head with a rock about 10 times, while holding her by her hair and 'smashing her face to the ground,' the affidavit alleges. As she screamed for help, Arielle heard two other hikers and crawled over to them, she told police. Gerhardt then allegedly grabbed two syringes out of his bag and tried to inject her with them before she was able to escape him once again, per the affidavit. One of the two witnesses told police she heard Arielle screaming for help and found Gerhardt allegedly on top of his wife hitting her head. He stopped when he saw her, the witness told police. Arielle was eventually able to move away from her husband, as he fled up the trail, per the affidavit.
