Marshal Arjan Singh Memorial Hockey event kicks off
Chandigarh: The 6th edition of the Marshal of the Air Force Arjan Singh Memorial Hockey Tournament-2025 commenced on Tuesday with a grand opening ceremony at the Raghbir Singh Bhola Hockey Stadium, 3 BRD AF Chandigarh. The ceremony was held to celebrate the 106th birth anniversary of the Marshal of the Air Force Arjan Singh DFC.
Air Marshal Vijay Kumar Garg, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Maintenance Command, was the chief guest during the ceremony and declared the tournament open. In his opening address, Air Marshal Garg said the event is a befitting tribute to Marshal Arjan Singh's legacy and contribution to the nation. Emphasising the significance of the tournament, he stated that it would provide a platform for elite hockey teams to showcase their skills. He assured that the Indian Air Force would ensure the smooth conduct of the tournament.
The opening match was played between the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Central Board of Direct Taxes, with the IAF team emerging victorious with a score of 5-1. Agniveervayu Sukhnath Guriya of the Indian Air Force team was declared Man of the Match and received a cheque of Rs 10,000 from the chief guest.
During the ceremony, prominent veteran hockey players were felicitated, including Tejinder Singh, MWO (HFO) Satvir Singh (retd), JWO Kuldeep Singh (retd), and Sgt Devesh (retd). Air Commodore Rajeev Shrivastava, AOC 3BRD, and Group Captain Manpreet Singh, Chief Administrative Officer 3BRD Chandigarh, were also present on the occasion.

Captivating cultural programmes were presented by the students of KV 3 BRD Air Force and KV-31 Schools. The energetic 'Thrill to Drill' performance of air warriors left the audience in awe. The Air Force musical band presentation also mesmerised the audience.
A total of 12 teams, including an international team from Bangladesh, are competing in the tournament, organised by the Air Force Sports Control Board from April 29 to May 6.
