Liverpool confirm agreement to REPLACE fan favourite

One of the big factors why Kelleher was regarded as such a brilliant no.2 was because he was able to come in and replace Alisson in the Brazilian's absence. Kelleher was able to do this due to his composure on the ball and brilliant reflexes. Advertisement His composure on the ball came from playing as a striker in Ireland until the age of 13-years-old, when he switched into playing as a goalkeeper instead. 'He was a very good centre-forward and represented his county in that position," Eddie Harrington told the Liverpool ECHO back in 2022. 'He only went in goal at Under-14s level and that was only about seven years ago. That's a massive transition. We taught him to pass it out from the back but he probably had the footwork from being an outfielder," Harrington continued. Now Liverpool are about to sign a player very similar to Kelleher, who went through the same journey at around the same age. Advertisement The Reds have confirmed the arrival of Armin Pecsi from Puskas Akademia. Like Kelleher, he is a brilliant shot-stopper with great reflexes, who prevented 14.33 goals in the Hungarian top flight last season. But even more interestingly, like Kelleher, Pecsi also played as a forward at a younger age and learned the foundations of the game as an outfielder before switching to become a goalkeeper. "For a long time I played up front, I also played in goal, but I preferred to play as a striker," Pecsi told FEOL. "Even at the age of maybe 11 or 12, I was still playing in both striker and goalkeeper," he continued. Advertisement "Then there came a point when I was told it would be good to decide which I wanted to do, and I decided to stay in goal and continue there. I decided on my own." In this sense, Liverpool might have just signed their Kelleher 2.0 and have already replaced the beloved fan favourite at Anfield in the matter of days. All for the paltry sum of £1.5m, Anfield Watch understands. There's no denying this is the perfect deal.

Liverpool confirm signing of 20-year-old Armin Pecsi from Puskas Akademia

Liverpool have announced the £1.5 million ($2m) signing of 20-year-old Hungarian goalkeeper Armin Pecsi from Puskas Akademia. Pecsi's arrival follows the departure of academy graduate Caoimhin Kelleher, who joined Brentford earlier this week for a fee rising to £18m ($24.4m). Pecsi played 30 times for Puskas Akademia in Hungary's top-flight in 2024-25 and is expected to play for Liverpool's Under-21 side next season. The Athletic reported that the Premier League champions believe Pecsi has high potential and will provide further depth to their goalkeeping ranks. Advertisement The Hungary Under-21 international has made 52 appearances in total for Puskas Akademia, while he also played 18 times in a loan spell with fellow Hungarian side Csakvar. Liverpool's goalkeeping department has undergone a number of changes this summer, with Giorgi Mamardashvili set to join the club from Valencia after a £29m deal was reached last August for the Georgia international. Vitezslav Jaros, 23, made two first-team appearances for Liverpool last season but is expected to be loaned out for the 2024-25 campaign. Pecsi, meanwhile, will be competing with Kornel Misciur for game time in the Under-21s. Liverpool's long-serving Under-21s head coach Barry Lewtas announced his departure earlier this week after 12 years at the club. ()

Liverpool confirm second summer transfer as highly-rated Hungary star joins Reds

Liverpool have signed 20-year-old goalkeeper Armin Pecsi, who could soon be joined by another Hungarian as the Reds get close to landing Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth Liverpool have signed goalkeeper Armin Pecsi from Hungarian side Puskas Akademia. The 20-year-old has joined the Reds for £1.5million after completing a medical and signing his contract on Saturday. Pecsi is expected to join Liverpool 's under-21s, although he will get the chance to train with first-team goalkeeper Alisson Becker and new signing Giorgi Mamardashvili. He joins the club after Caoimhin Kelleher left Liverpool to become Brentford's first-choice keeper for £18m. ‌ Although young, Pecsi has plenty of experience, having made 52 appearances in all competitions for Puskas Akademia, keeping 15 clean sheets. He made 30 appearances across the 2024/25 season, helping the club finish second in the Hungarian top flight. ‌ He has also clocked up five appearances for the Hungary under-21 side and was nominated for the prestigious 2025 Golden Boy award. The youngster is the second Hungarian in the Liverpool squad, alongside Dominik Szoboszlai, although that number could become three, with the club pushing to sign Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez. Kerkez has left the Hungary camp ahead of a match against Azerbaijan due to 'private reasons'. Those are understood to be connected to a pending move from Bournemouth to Liverpool, with all parties wanting to avoid any injuries in the closing stages of negotiations. Pecsi is the second signing of the summer transfer window, following Jeremie Frimpong in joining the club. Frimpong has signed a five-year deal with Liverpool after the club paid Bayer Leverkusen £29.5m for his services in the wake of Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving for Real Madrid. Mamardashvili, meanwhile, was officially signed last summer, but was immediately loaned back to Valencia for the 2024/25 campaign. He will now join up with Arne Slot 's squad, effectively taking Kelleher's place as the second-choice keeper behind Alisson. HAVE YOUR SAY! Who will be the most important summer signing for Liverpool? Comment below. ‌ Liverpool also remain in talks with Leverkusen over a potential British-record deal for Florian Wirtz, having offered £113m for the playmaker. That bid, made up of £100m upfront with around £13m in bonuses, is still short of Leverkusen's asking price of £126.4m (€150m). Meanwhile, Liverpool have released seven players. Dominic Corness, Louis Enahoro-Marcus, Harry Evers, Lee Jonas, Jakub Ojrzynski, Jacob Poytress and Reece Trueman, none of whom had played for the first team, have all departed the new Premier League champions and will search for new clubs. ‌ Further departures are expected, with Darwin Nunez, Harvey Elliott, Andy Robertson and Federico Chiesa among those who could leave. Chiesa only joined Liverpool last summer from Juventus for £10m, but he has struggled for game time under Slot and wants to leave. He told Corriere dello Sport: "At the beginning I felt the frustration of the radical change and of being far behind the group, then there was the injury. Could I start to discuss the choices of Slot who has always been very respectful towards me, as well as the club? The desire to play was there, I put it aside, I understood the situation."

Liverpool complete second signing of the summer as Arne Slot looks to bolster Premier League winning squad

Liverpool have completed their second signing of the summer as they look to bolster their squad which won the Premier League. Arne Slot 's side romped to Premier League victory and have been quick to add extra depth as they look to defend their title and challenge in Europe. They have now signed 20-year-old goalkeeper Armin Pecsi from Hungarian side Puskas Akademia in a deal which could reach £1.5million. Pecsi was nominated for the 2025 Golden Boy award and has represented Hungary at Under-21 level. He played 36 times in all competitions last season for his Puskas Akademia as they finished in second behind Robbie Keane's Ferencvaros. The goalkeeper also appeared in the Europa Conference League, before being knocked out by semi-finalists Fiorentina. — Liverpool FC (@LFC) June 7, 2025 Liverpool have completed their second summer signing with a £1.5million deal for Armin Pecsi He completed a medical at Liverpool's AXA Training Centre and will join Slot's goalkeeping ranks just days after Caoimhin Kelleher departed to Brentford in an £18m deal. Last week, Liverpool scooped Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen to complete their first transfer of the window. The club activated his £29.5m release clause and the right wing back penned a five-year contract at Anfield after completing his medical last month. His challenge is to fill the boots of Trent Alexander-Arnold. But Frimpong's record speaks glowingly of his potential. The 24-year-old has scored 28 goals in the last three seasons and assisted a further 35. The Reds are also hoping to wrap up a deal for German playmaker Florian Wirtz. The 22-year-old, also of Leverkusen, is regarded as one of Europe's hottest talents. A deal between the two clubs is reportedly closed to being agreed, with the playmaker set to sign a five-year contract, where he is expected to earn up to £18.5million-a-year. Liverpool remain in negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen over a price for Wirtz and while talks are ongoing, an agreement is considered certain, according to Bild. Leverkusen want £120million and Liverpool have offered £109m but Wirtz has made it clear he wants the move. Wirtz looks set to complete his medical next week and will go on holiday before linking up with the squad for pre-season in July. The German star has been convinced by Arne Slot's clear plan of where he will play in Liverpool's set-up as a No 10. And on Wednesday, Wirtz appeared to nod when asked by MailSport if he was 'excited for Liverpool' after Germany's Nations League defeat by Portugal. If Liverpool accept Bayer's demands, Wirtz would become the most expensive signing in British football, overtaking the £115m Chelsea paid Brighton for Moises Caicedo. Slot's side are also in talks with Bournemouth for the highly-rated £40m left-back Milos Kerkez.

When does transfer window close? Liverpool's deadline for signing Florian Wirtz

Liverpool is looking to get its business done early on in the transfer window, with Jeremie Frimpong already through the door and prodigious Hungarian goalkeeper Armin Pecsi joining him on Saturday. Pecsi, 20, has been signed for a fee that could rise to $2 million and is expected to play for Liverpool's Under-21 team next term, while also benefiting from training alongside Alisson and Giorgi Mamardashvili. Advertisement The signing that the majority of Liverpool fans are most excited about, though, is that of Florian Wirtz, who is expected to secure a move to Anfield from Bayer Leverkusen. It emerged last month that Wirtz had decided he wanted to join Liverpool over Bayern Munich, and the Reds have been working to try to get a deal over the line in recent weeks. Liverpool is hopeful of tying up a deal for Wirtz before the first transfer window of the summer closes on Tuesday, June 10, but even if the deal is not done by then, the second window of the summer opens less than a week later and runs until the beginning of September, so the Reds will not panic if Wirtz's signature hasn't been secured by June 10. Advertisement The new transfer window that opened on June 1 was introduced so that clubs participating in this summer's revamped Club World Cup could make signings ahead of the tournament getting underway in mid-June. Liverpool made an improved bid to sign Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen late this week, hoping to end the transfer saga that started in mid-May. In the late evening on Friday night UK-time, it was reported that the Reds had upped their bid to a figure of $153 million (£113 million) — around $135 million (£100 million) base and up to around $18 million (£13 million) in add-ons. Advertisement Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano recently claimed that Liverpool is "advancing" to complete the Wirtz deal in the coming days, with negotiations in the "final stages." It's claimed the player will then travel to Merseyside to complete his medical. This bid is thought to be below Bayer Leverkusen's valuation of the player, thought to be around $170 million (£126 million).
