Gardaí urge anyone at Carlow shopping centre during shooting to come forward

Gardaí in Carlow continue to investigate all circumstances surrounding the discharge of a firearm and the death of a man in his 20s following an incident at Fairgreen Shopping Centre, Co Carlow. The incident unfolded at 6:15pm when it appears a man fired a number of shots towards the roof of the busy Tesco supermarket at the Fairgreen Shopping Centre. Advertisement Shoppers and staff ran for cover when two rounds of shots rang out. It is understood that the man, then ran outside of the building and shot himself dead. A girl was also injured and has been taken to St Luke's General Hospital for treatment. Gardaí said the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit has completed its examination of the area and it has been declared safe. However, the scene remains cordoned off while both the Garda Technical Bureau and the Office of the State Pathologist conduct examinations. An update will be issued when cars parked within the cordon can be retrieved. Advertisement An incident room has been established at Carlow Garda Station, with a Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) appointed to lead the investigation. A Family Liaison Officer is providing support to the deceased's family at this time. Investigating gardaí are urging anyone who may have recorded footage of the incident not to share it on social media platforms or messaging apps, but instead to provide it directly to the investing team. Anyone present at Fairgreen Shopping Centre between approximately 6:00pm and 6:30pm on Sunday evening is asked to contact the incident room at Carlow Garda Station. A PROBE has been launched into a suspected shooting incident at an Irish shopping centre. It is understood that a man has died and a child was injured during the incident in a supermarket at the Fairgreen Shopping Centre in Carlow town at around 6.15pm. Details of the incident remain unclear. It is believed that a man was fatally injured during the incident. There are reports that a young boy was also injured. However, it is unknown if he sustained injuries as a result of people fleeing the scene or if he was hit with gunfire. The boy has been taken to hospital for treatment and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The shopping centre has been evacuated and cops have sealed off the scene. The army bomb squad has also been called in as a precaution. It's understood that gardai became concerned about the possibility of an explosive device in the area. The body of the man remains at the scene. However, gardai have confirmed there is no further concern for public safety. They have urged issued a public appeal for people not to share recorded footage of the incident on social media. They have also appealed to witnesses or anyone with information to contact them. A spokesperson said: " Gardai are currently at the scene of an incident at a retail premises in Carlow town. The alarm was raised shortly after 6:15pm. "The premises has been evacuated and the scene is preserved. The Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team has been requested to attend. "At this time, there is no further concern for public safety. "Anyone who may have recorded footage of the incident is urged not to share it on social media platforms or messaging apps, but instead to provide it to Gardaí at Carlow Garda Station. 20 pipe bombs and €190k of cannabis seized by gardaí in Co Louth

Gardaí seized €190,000 of cannabis and 20 pipe bombs as part of a search in Ardee, Co Louth, on Tuesday. The search was part of an intelligence-led operation linked to the seizure of the cannabis. The EOD team examined the suspect devices and subsequently made them safe. The devices were removed from the area for further examination, and the cordon was lifted.
