MPs battle Army in Sindoor Cup today

1 2 Kanpur: Member of Parliament XI will face Army XI in the "Sindoor cup Cricket match" under floodlights at the historic Green park stadium on Sunday evening. The match will be broadcast live in 36 countries by DD. On the eve of the match, Ramesh Awasthi MP, Akhil Kumar police commissioner, and Brig. Sabrul Hasan unveiled the glittering trophy, embedded with a replica of the Brahmos missile, at Green park. Organisers have distributed around 20 thousand free passes, with entry to the stadium to open at 3 p.m. Cultural programmes are set to begin at 4 p.m. with a performance by renowned singer Swati Mishra. Subsequently, poetess Kavita Tiwari and Kanhaiya Mittal will perform. Ramesh Awasthi stated that after the first inning, the Army band will present patriotic songs. The toss is scheduled for 6.15 p.m., with the match starting at 6.30 p.m. Defence state minister Sanjay Seth will inaugurate the match. Manoj Tiwari will captain MP XI, while Brig. Sabrul Hassan will lead Army XI. The event is dedicated to the valour and bravery of the Army. NEW DELHI: The trophy for the 'Operation Sindoor Cup', a symbolic cricket match between Army XI and Parliament XI, was unveiled on Saturday in Kanpur. The match is scheduled to be played on June 29 at the historic Green Park Stadium to honour the success of Operation Sindoor, the Indian Armed Forces ' targeted offensive against Pakistan-backed terror groups. The match aims to celebrate national unity and the Armed Forces' resolve following the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, led to a series of precision strikes on terrorist infrastructure across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, killing over 100 operatives from outfits like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. The specially designed trophy features a cricket bat, a BrahMos missile , and a Rafale fighter jet — each symbolising the spirit of sport, strategy, and national strength. Brigadier Samrul Hassan will lead the Army XI, which will include army officers, police personnel, and members of the district administration. Parliament XI, composed of Members of Parliament and state legislators, will be captained by MP Manoj Tiwari . Kanpur: After the success of operation Sindoor, a cricket match dedicated to the valour and bravery of the army will be held between MP XI and Army XI at Green Park on June 29. Ramesh Awasthi, local MP, addressing the media about the details of the match, stated that the event will be of 20 overs each innings and MPs would be led by Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari. While Army XI will be led by Brig. Sarwan Hasan. Entry for spectators would be through passes and around 20,000 passes would be distributed among the cricket fans. C Balcony would be closed for spectators due to security reasons. Representatives of all political parties had been invited to represent MP XI. Awasthi informed that before the match, cultural programmes would be presented . Two bands of Army would also present their tunes before the guests.
