Gustaf Lagerbielke to head back to Celtic after admission

The Hoops sent the Swedish back on loan to the Eredivisie side for the season with his first-team chances limited, playing just seven times in the Premiership the campaign before. Lagerbielke played 32 times as he helped Twente finish sixth in the Dutch top flight. Former technical director Arnold Bruggink admits it's unlikely he will be kept on, though. That's what it looks like at the moment. "Two central defenders, one of whom has to be a real leader, as far as I'm concerned. "The profile you're looking at is that of Robin Propper. "You need a leader from the back, which will give you a lot more stability. "You need players who can also make others play better football. That's what you need in that position."

Technical director issues Celtic demand over Gustaf Lagerbielke

The 24-year-old defender is currently on loan at the Dutch club and is keen to make the move permanent. However, he still has three years remaining on his contract at Celtic. He arrived in the summer of 2023 from IF Elfsporg with Brendan Rodgers splashing out £3m to secure his signature but the move hasn't worked out. Twente's technical director, Arnold Bruggink, has claimed that the Hoops are asking for too much money to make the deal permanent. He said: "In this case, we are dependent on what Celtic want. "They are asking for quite a bit of money. "He is a very stable defender. "We would like to make the deal permanent, but I think it is not very realistic at the moment." It remains to be seen if Lagerbielke will have a future at Celtic upon his return to Glasgow at the end of the season. The Swedish international cost the club £3 million when he signed from Elfsborg in his homeland two years ago. However, he made only four league starts before heading to the Netherlands on loan.

Celtic loan star being ‘priced out' of permanent transfer as club admit deal isn't looking realistic

CELTIC are pricing outcast Gustaf Lagerbielke out of his dream move to Dutch football, according to Twente Enschede technical director Arnold Bruggink. The 24-year-old is on loan with the Eredivisie club until the end of the season and is then due to return to Parkhead, where he still has three years left on his deal. 3 Gustaf Lagerbielke has enjoyed his spell at FC Twente Credit: Getty 3 He moved after falling out of favour at Parkhead Credit: Kenny Ramsay 3 The Dutch club has admitted a permanent deal isn't likely Credit: Getty Lagerbielke revealed at the weekend he wanted to turn the loan move into a permanent one, but it depended on Twente and Celtic reaching an agreement. And, according to Bruggink, there doesn't seem much hope of that. He said: "In this case, we are dependent on what Celtic want. "They are asking for quite a bit of money. "He is a very stable defender. We would like to make the deal permanent, but I think it is not very realistic at the moment." The Swedish international cost Celtic £3 million when he signed from homeland club Elfsborg two years ago. However, he made only four league starts and was shipped off to the Netherlands on loan. The interested party were hoping to secure the central defender's services for less than £2 million. The man once targeted by Dutch giants Ajax had been hinting at a desire to stay in the country for a while, revealing that the Parkhead parent club didn't keep in contact with him all that much. With a heap of time left on his Hoops contract and no option-to-buy clause negotiated in the loan move, it's up to both teams to either come to an agreement or call it quits. Thousands of jubilant Celtic fans gather at Parkhead for title party as they let off pyro and await fan return With a heap of time left on his Hoops contract and no option-to-buy clause negotiated in the loan move, it's up to both teams to either come to an agreement or call it quits. Despite having a very brief stint in the green and white before it started to fall apart and saw him leave, it wasn't all doom and gloom. He can look back on playing in a victorious Old Firm derby against Rangers and netting a winning goal against Feyenoord in the Champions League, all in just 10 appearances! The Swede said of his loan move: He said: "If we make it into Europe, Twente will have more money to spend. The same applies if Twente sells players in the summer. "So it's up to the technical directors of Celtic and Twente to reach an agreement about me. "I want to play and I feel good in the Netherlands. I can certainly imagine my future being here."
