Thanjavur accident death toll increases to six
Trichy: The number of deaths in the collision between a govt bus and a tourist van near Thanjavur rose to six after one more person succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The deceased was identified as Charles Das, 49.
A 20-member group travelling from Bengaluru to Velankanni in a tourist van collided with a TNSTC bus near the Sengipatti flyover on the Trichy-Thanjavur highway on Wednesday.
Four people - van driver Arockiyadas Paul, 44, Jacqueline San Diego John Bosco, 50, Nalini Charles, 49, and Jegadeesan Kempenna, 45 died on the spot, while San Diego John Bosco, 57 died on way to the hospital.
The injured van passengers were rushed to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital.
In the early hours of Thursday, Nalini's husband Charles Das, succumbed to his injuries. Six others are under intensive care at Thanjavur MCH.
A case is under investigation at Sengipatti police station under BNS sections 281n (rash driving) and 106-i (causing death by negligence).
Meanwhile, inspector general of police of central region K Joshi Nirmal Kumar visited the accident spot near Sengipatti. The road where the collision took place was a diversion as the other side was undergoing repair work.
