Man charged with narcotics trafficking in S.F., possessing more than a kilo of fentanyl
A man pleaded not guilty Tuesday to multiple narcotics trafficking counts — including an allegation that he had more than one kilogram of fentanyl — in San Francisco Superior Court, district attorney's officials said. District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced her office charged Jefferson Arrechaba, 31, with multiple felonies in connection to drug trafficking in the Tenderloin. Prosecutors said Arrechaba possessed multiple drugs for trafficking sales, including fentanyl, methamphetamine, heroin and alprazolam, a benzodiazepine commonly referred to as Xanax. Arrechaba denied all the allegations in his arraignment Tuesday, officials said. Prosecutors said at approximately 10:40 p.m. on May 8 at the 600 block of McAllister Street, police observed Arrechaba make 'quick and furtive hand movements' between himself and several other people while holding a clear plastic bag. When police made an attempt to detain him, Arrechaba allegedly threw a car key in the bushes. During their search of him, police allegedly found 87.7 grams of suspected fentanyl, $2,169 in cash, empty baggies and a cell phone, prosecutors said. After retrieving the car key, police located a blue Honda CR-V and found more than a kilogram of suspected fentanyl, 389.3 grams of suspected heroin, 32.1 grams of suspected alprazolam, 437.2 grams of suspected methamphetamine and four digital scales. Arrechaba was out of custody at the time of the incident on a pending felony case, officials said. Arrechaba now remains in custody with no bail option. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 23, officials said.
