Why Bristol need (another) Bath favour to make Premiership play-offs

Friday, 7.45pmTNT Sports 1Perhaps the game of the weekend takes place at the Salford Community Stadium. Sale and Bristol swapped places in the table last weekend, but it is hard not to see that trick repeating itself. Oh, Sale, what did you do? You were absolutely wonderful in the first half at Welford Road and then completely blew it. At the beginning, it was the same as usual; big hard bastards offering front-foot ball to allow April's Premiership player of the month George Ford to wave his wand and let the back-line dancers have their fun. The day after being left out of the British & Irish Lions squad, Ford had another stormer. His assist for Arron Reed's try was sensational. How

Jamie George and Luke Cowan-Dickie challenge Irish for Lions call-up

The thumping win by Sale Sharks over Saracens in another Premiership classic on Friday evening established Sale in second place in the table behind Bath, and, given their recent momentum, they have Bath looking over their collective shoulders. The also have a contender for the try of the season after Arron Reed's spectacular effort — he picked up the ball near his own line and carved up the Saracens defence in sensational style, for a try at the other end. But there was so much else to interest the observer, not least to interest Andy Farrell, the British & Irish Lions head coach. Before the match, one confrontation in particular stirred the blood — and we were not disappointed with the way that it turned

Watch: Sale's Arron Reed scores ‘try of the season'

Winger Arron Reed scored one of the tries of the season for Sale Sharks, beating three Saracens defenders from fully 95 metres out. After pouncing on a Saracens' turnover deep inside their own 22, Sale spread the ball to Reed who received the ball five metres from his own try-line. He immediately turned Nick Tompkins inside out before cutting inside to go past winger Angus Hall. There was still plenty of work to do as he burst into open space approaching the halfway line with Elliot Daly acting as the last line of Saracens' defence. But the diminutive Reed, who has won three caps for Scotland, cut back towards the touchline and through the grasp of the England utility man. THIS. IS. AMAZING. Arron Reed has maybe just scored the try of the season for @SaleSharksRugby 🤯 #GallagherPrem | #SALvSAR — Rugby on TNT Sports (@rugbyontnt) April 25, 2025 Tompkins, whose blood had recovered from being twisted, had got back but did not have the legs to catch Reed who finished ecstatically among the Sale replacements. Speaking to TNT Sports later in the game, Sale director of rugby Alex Sanderson said: 'He's greased lightning isn't he? He has not had a lot of space in recent weeks but he is really, really quick as you can see. If we hag to give him five metres in front of his own line and if that's where the space is then we have to give it to him.' Former England fly-half Andy Goode said on social media: 'The try of the season in the Premiership done and dusted for Arron Reed! Wowsers have a watch!'
