Maharashtra hosts one of three ICSE 100% scorers in country
1 2 3 Pune/Mumbai: Girls have once again edged past boys in the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education, (ICSE) 2025 examinations in Maharashtra, as per the results announced by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) on Wednesday. In the ICSE (Std X) exam, girls recorded a pass percentage of 99.92%, slightly ahead of boys at 99.89%. Arsh Chaudhari, a student of Navi Mumbai's St Mary's ICSE School, bagged the perfect ICSE score along with two others from Jharkhand and Kolkata. The three students emerged as all-India toppers with the elusive 100% score. Last year, the highest score stood at 99.8%. Among the highest-scoring students in Pune in the ICSE exam are two girls — Riddhima Goswami, who scored 99.6%, and Avisha Shiju John, who scored 99.4%. Goswami, a student of VIBGYOR School, said, "Subjects like chemistry, biology, mathematics, history-civics, geography, and computers were all part of my curriculum, and I scored 100 in many of them. I've always been more inclined towards the sciences, and I'm clear that I want to pursue engineering, specifically in computer science. My next goal is to prepare for entrance exams like MHT-CET. Staying focused without burning out really helped." Avisha John from St Mary's School, Camp, scored full marks in subjects such as English literature, Hindi, mathematics, chemistry, biology, and computer applications. She said, "I had a feeling I would do well, but seeing the final result still felt amazing. Overall, the exams were balanced—not too easy, not too hard. I made it a point to solve past years' question papers regularly, which helped me understand the pattern and manage my time better. I avoided last-minute cramming and stuck to a steady routine. That really worked for me." Across India and abroad, more than 2.5 lakh students appeared for the ICSE exams. A total of 29,282 students appeared for this exam in the state and the overall pass rate was exceptionally high at 99.9%. This was similar to 2024, and also marginally higher than the national rate of 99.09%. Of the 20,385 students who scored above 95% in the country, almost one fourth or 4,756 are from Maharashtra. Though the number of students bagging 95% and above has increased nationally, in the state it has dropped by hundreds from last year's 5,230. In percentages, 99.37% of girls who took the exam passed, while 98.84% of boys passed. Candidates with learning difficulties or visual challenges also did well, with some scoring above 90%. In ICSE, 112 students with learning difficulties scored above 90%, while 13 visually challenged students crossed the same mark. The Northern region had the highest number of candidates, but the Western region had the best pass rate in ICSE at 99.83%. The Western and Southern regions in India performed best, with pass rates close to 100%. The Southern region also had the highest percentage of girl candidates. Students took exams in 67 ICSE subjects, including Indian and foreign languages. Overall, the results show consistent effort by students, teachers, and schools. In the city, the St. Mary's School and Junior College celebrated a 100% pass result for both ICSE and ISC. Out of 202 ICSE candidates in the school, 78 scored above 95%, and 62 scored above 90%. Wisdom World School, Hadapsar, also reported a 100% pass result for its sixth ICSE batch this year. "We are immensely proud of our sixth ICSE batch. Aditi Amol Pawar and Samyojoy Das topped the class with 98.6%, followed by Trisha Patani at 98.1% and Kalpana Chaudhary at 98%. Our ten-year-old school has once again achieved a 100% result. This year, 65% of our students scored 90% and above, which is up from 45% last year, and over 31% scored above 95%. The lowest score was 73.3%, which itself is commendable. These results reflect the hard work of our students and the dedicated support of our teachers and parents," said Amita Seth, Principal, Wisdom World School. Shayne McPherson, honorary secretary of The Bishop's Education Society, Pune, said, "I am extremely proud to announce that the ICSE and ISC Batches of 2025 from The Bishop's School, Camp, The Bishop's Co- Ed School, Kalyani Nagar, and The Bishop Co-Ed School, Undri have achieved 100% pass results in the board examinations. We congratulate our students on this significant milestone and wish them continued success." Vidya Prathishthan's Magarpatta City School also had a 100% pass rate with 110 students appearing for ICSE. Among them, 52 scored above 90%. At Vidya Valley School, which also boasts 100% pass results, 23 students scored full marks in History, and 18 in Biology. Ipsita Rodricks, director, Vidya Valley School, said, "Analytical analysis toppers have consistently engaged in project-based learning opportunities throughout their schooling. They also possess diverse interests and skills in music, debates, dance, theatre, and sports. This time, we have recorded the highest number of perfect scores in History, possibly indicating a growing inclination towards the social sciences. A key highlight has been the supportive role of parents who have encouraged their children to pursue their passions." Pune-based student Aryaman Deshmukh, who scored 98.8%, is a multifaceted achiever—he was a guitarist with the school band, a champion player in the Under-17 basketball team, the creator of a tree-mapping app for NGO Jeevitnadi, and also served as the school head boy. From Pawar Public School in Hadapsar, 174 students appeared and passed ICSE, with school toppers Pavani Mulay, Arpita Mane, and Aaryaa Bhore scoring 98.5%. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis's daughter Divija secured 92.6%, his wife Amruta Fadnavis said In a post on X, she said. "Our minds are filled with joy. Our daughter Divija secured 92.60 per cent in Class X Board exams." Since last year, the council has refrained from announcing the merit list. Joseph Emmanuel, the chief executive and secretary of the CISCE, said they will not be coming out with the merit list henceforth. He said that over 80% students in both ICSE and ISC have scored over first class (60% score), which is a great achievement for the council. "We have seen the performance improving across schools. There is a general apprehension about the council among parents and many feel that it is tough to score in the exams, but data speaks otherwise. Schools are doing extremely well in maintaining high standards and with good curriculum components, students are consistently doing better in the board exams," he said.

City boy bags 100% in ICSE; state boasts near-perfect success rate

Almost everyone who appeared for ICSE board exam this year from the state have cleared it, with a success rate of 99.9%, similar to 2024, also marginally higher than the national rate of 99.09%. The national results have dropped marginally by 0.4%. Of the 20,385 who scored above 95% in the country, almost one-fourth or 4,756 are from Maharashtra. Meanwhile, though the number of students bagging 95% and above has increased nationally, in the state it has dropped.
