Making music using a Güiro at ArtBreak 2025
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – The Shreveport Regional Arts Council's (SRAC) ArtBreak Festival opens to the public Friday, May 2, at 4 p.m., offering interactive exhibits, live performances, and a glimpse into the creative work happening in local classrooms. SRAC Executive Director Rebecca Bonnevier says one of the weekend highlights is KTAL's 'ArtBreak's Got Talent' show on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. 'It's going to be fabulous,' said Bonnevier. 'All sorts of young performers will be taking the stage—and we'll see who wins!' This year's festival also featured a crowd favorite: The Uncle Devin Show. A Washington, D.C.–based musician and educator, Uncle Devin brought rhythm and excitement to ArtBreak with a hands-on experience that introduced students to unique percussion instruments like the güiro and congas. 'We just have fun,' said Uncle Devin. 'We bring the beat, and we let kids explore how these instruments are actually played. We did 21 shows in four days—it's been amazing.'
