City of Terre Haute announces near completion of city project

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— The City of Terre Haute announced Thursday that the pedestrian wayfinding project is nearly complete. This initiative was created to enhance accessibility and visibility for one of Indiana's officially recognized cultural hubs, the 41|40 Arts and Cultural District. Now, after five years of planning and work, the 41|40 Pedestrian Wayfinding Project led by Arts Illiana with the Advisory Board's Wayfinding Committee is nearly complete. The project aims to guide residents and visitors through the district with enhanced signage, walkability, and connection between cultural destinations. Six years ago, the Indiana Arts Commission designated Terre Haute as one of twelve communities in Indiana to have an Arts and Cultural district. An Advisory Board of local shareholders defined the area that encompasses downtown Terre Haute and the Indiana State University campus as the 41|40 Arts and Cultural District. It was chosen to highlight Terre Haute's arts and cultural assets located between U.S. Highway 41 and the CSX railroad tracks that run from Poplar Street to Tippecanoe Street. 'This project beautifully combines pedestrian wayfinding with the vibrant arts and culture of our downtown,' said Brandon Sakbun, Mayor of Terre Haute. 'The City remains committed to prioritizing downtown revitalization through strong partnerships with both nonprofit and private sector leaders. We're grateful to the many individuals and organizations who have supported the growth and energy of downtown Terre Haute over the years.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Tablescapes fundraiser supports local art in Terre Haute

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — You can support a local art gallery with a fun and imaginative event later this week. Arts Illiana will hold its annual Tablescapes fundraiser this Friday and Saturday, May 14 and 15. The event raises funds to support Arts Illiana's mission of promoting the arts in the community, including their gallery. At the Tablescapes event, artists, designers, businesses and community members get a theme and design and design a table based on that concept. 'We have all kinds of different things. It could be something from middle-earth out of Tolkien, to a summer sunset. I mean, they will design an entire table around a theme, and it's hilarious, and a lot of fun and beautiful,' said Jon Robeson, Arts Illiana's Executive Director. The event will be held at the Sycamore Banquet Center at Indiana State University's Hulman Memorial Union.
