PSSI: No plans yet to invite Harimau Malaya and Lebanon for Tri-Nation
KUALA LUMPUR: The Indonesian FA (PSSI) has denied reports of a Tri-Nation tournament involving its national team, Malaysia and Lebanon during the September FIFA window.
The speculation emerged on social media, claiming that invitations had been extended to both countries for the friendly event.
However, PSSI executive committee member Arya Sinulingga clarified in an interview with Indonesian portal that no such plans had been finalised.
"As of today, there is no plan for Indonesia's national team to play against Malaysia and Lebanon in friendlies," said Sinulingga.
The reports had suggested the PSSI had already invited Harimau Malaya and Lebanon for a Tri-Nation tournament on Sept 1-9.
But Sinulingga said the event's status remains uncertain and hinges on Indonesia's progress in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
"The tournament has not been confirmed yet, as everything will depend on whether Indonesia qualify for the fourth round of the World Cup qualifiers," he added.
Indonesia are currently battling for a place in the next round, sitting fourth in Group C with nine points from eight matches.
However, they still stand a strong chance of finishing second in the group — a spot which could see them advance — as they trail second-placed Australia by just four points with two games left.
Indonesia will face China at home on June 5 before travelling to Japan on June 10.
