Veg pulao, ice cream flavour nawab progeny's Mangal feast

Lucknow: In a heartwarming display of communal harmony, Nawab Syed Mohammad Asad, businessman and descendant of the third nawab of Awadh, Muhammad Ali Shah, continued his family tradition of organising bhandara (community feast) on Bada Mangal in the city on Tuesday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Asad, who has been faithfully carrying forward this legacy dating back to nawabi era, said. "I've been witnessing this tradition since childhood when my father would organise these feasts during the Jyeshtha month of Hindu calendar." The tradition is to serve all regardless of religious belief. Over the years, bhandaras have offered rice with chhhola, rajma, kadhi, puri sabzi, and boondi. This year, Asad offered veg pulao and ice cream of mango, strawberry, orange, pineapple and lemon flavours. "I organise bhandara not only to preserve my ancestral legacy but also because I believe it's my duty to serve those who struggle for two square meals of the day," said Asad. His mother, Husna Begum, emphasised that the tradition aimed to preserve Lucknow's famous Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb, where people of different faiths coexist harmoniously. "We hope our future generations will continue the tradition as also our family legacy," she added. Beside the annual feasts, Asad has contributed to the city's interfaith harmony by installing coolers in several temples, including at Koneshwar temple and Lete Huye Hanumanji temple, demonstrating his commitment to fostering communal brotherhood. Meanwhile, Bada Mangal was celebrated by Leaders Club at the Central Bank of India, Faizabad Road. Prayers were offered to Lord Hanuman for communal harmony and national integration, Rahul Dhawan, captain of Leaders Club said, "We have Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs in our team and we wish to sustain the Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb of Awadh," he said.

Contribute now New Delhi: A 24-year-old migrant labourer was fatally wounded in Haryana's Panipat on May 24 after a dispute over the skull-cap he was wearing turned violent. Police have said the crime did not have a communal angle. The victim was identified as Firdaus Alam alias Asjad Babu. Firdaus, originally from Bihar's Kishanganj, worked as a tailor at a factory in Panipat. According to Asad, Firdaus's brother, he had recently got married and was returning from his in-laws' house with a friend, Shahnawaz, when they were intercepted by one Shishu Lala alias Narendra at around 8 pm. Narendra owns a grocery store near Flora Chowk in Panipat's Sector 29. 'He snatched my brother's skull-cap and put it on as if to mock him,' said Asad. 'When my brother told him to return it, he threw it on the ground,' Asad added. According to Asad, Firdaus did not fight back. 'He gave an angry look to Narendra and asked him why he threw his skull-cap. This angered the shopkeeper who allegedly said, 'How dare you talk to me like that?',' Asad said. Asad added that when Firdaus bent down to pick his skull-cap up, Narendra allegedly hit Firdaus's head with a baton and mockingly asked if he liked it. After the attack, Firdaus fell unconscious and Shahnawaz telephoned Asad in panic. Asad reached the spot and rushed him to a local government hospital from where he was referred to PGI (Post Graduate Institute) Rohtak. At Rohtak, Firdaus succumbed to his injuries. When asked if he knew the attacker, Asad said, 'I have been working here as a tailor for nine years. My brother only came two years ago. I don't know too many people here, so how would Firdaus know the man?' Asad suspects that his brother has been killed over his identity. 'The situation is like that these days,' he said. While the accused has been arrested, Indian Express reported that the Panipat police have denied any communal motivations behind the crime. The report has quoted Subhash Khasa, Station House Officer of the Industrial Sector 29 police station. 'Absolutely not. The accused just wanted to try on the cap, which he might not even have known was a proper skull cap. When he put it on and asked how he looked, the deceased asked him to return it. After that, a fight broke out. There is nothing more in the case, and the investigation is on,' Khasa said. An FIR has been registered against Narendra under various sections of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita including section 103(1) (murder, specifically the intentional killing of another person). Kishanganj MP Mohammad Jawaid, meanwhile, has posted on X claiming that this was not just hate crime but 'state-enabled terror' and 'targeted killing.' Jawaid is a Congress leader. 'The brutal lynching of Asjad Babu from Kochadaman, Kishanganj in Haryana—for the 'crime' of wearing a skull cap—is not just a hate crime, it's state-enabled terror. The Haryana govt must be held accountable for this targeted killing. We demand swift action against all culprits and ₹50 lakh compensation to the victim's family. This cannot be allowed in any civilised society,' Jawaid wrote. Pakistan: Car bomb targets Frontier Corps, leaves several people dead in Balochistan

Pakistan's southwest Quetta city. (File image/Xinhua/Asad/IANS) Quetta: A car bomb explosion in Gulistan Area of Qila Abdullah, a border area of Pakistan's Balochistan province with Afghanistan, has killed at least four people and injured more than 20 others, eight of them critically injured. The explosion occurred in Jabbar commercial market situated on the Quetta–Chaman National Highway in Gulistan town, adjacent to the fort of Pakistan's Frontier Corps (FC). As per details, the massive explosion destroyed many shops and vehicles parked in the area and walls of the FC Fort were also damaged. Locals said that many shops in the market also caught fire. Sources stated that the target of the attack was also a tribal warlord Faizullah Ghabizai, a pro-government leader, who was present in the market when the car bomb exploded. However, Ghabizai remained safe while one of his guards was killed and others were injured in the explosion. 'Apparently, the attackers wanted to target the back wall of the FC fort located adjacent to the commercial market. After the huge blast, security forces engaged in heavy exchange of fire with the attackers,' said Muhammad Riaz Dawar, Deputy Commissioner Qila Abdullah. 'An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was fitted in the car and was used for the explosion. It seems like the car was detonated with a remote control,' he added. The banned terror outfit, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack on the FC Fort and the levies are investigating into the incident while security in and around Qila Abdullah and Chaman has been beefed up. Analysts say that there is a clear coordination between the proscribed Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), who have intensified their attacks in the recent past. 'TTP footprints deep inside Balochistan re-establish the fact that both TTP and the BLA are in allegiance and operating in coordination against the Pakistani security forces. We also have seen the other separatist groups in Sindh province – including the Sindh Desh Revolution Army which has connections with the BLA and TTP – starting to carry out targetted killings in areas bordered with India,' said analyst Qamar Cheema. 'Pakistan has repeatedly stated that these militant groups are getting all the support and facilitation from Afghanistan,' he added. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has intensified its attacks on security forces in the province. Social media campaigns have also been launched by the BLA-led groups, calling for what they term as liberation from Pakistan and expressing allegiance with India.

READ MORE: David Tennant's new ITV show divides viewers amid 'too complicated' claims Warren said: 'Congratulations to all who have won or come close, especially and of course to Donald, who has done and continues to do so much for hospitality AND entertainment in Scotland. 'It is a very tough time for everyone right now, but it does seem the hospitality industry is really feeling the heat – people simply don't have the money to go out as often as they did, or they're scared to spend the money they do have. 'We need to socialise, we need that break and to let off steam, escape all the day-to-day worries – and that's what our friends in hospitality provide. 'With many closures and difficulties, it's important to recognise those who go above and beyond to give the public that chance to zone out, relax and de-stress. 'That's what these awards are for – it's a nod and a thank you from the public to the place and people they appreciate, those who do it better than the rest or just offer something really special. 'So while we have big names performing here tonight, the real stars are the award winners from all over Scotland, venues and businesses who stand out every single day and night. 'Thank you to every winner, every highly recommended and every business who perhaps hasn't won tonight but is out there working hard every day to support us all – sadly, there can be only one winner in each category and some are very close.' The awards were determined through public nominations, votes, and on-the-ground judging. The awards served as a celebration of resilience, excellence, and community impact.
