He pointed to the historic ties that span from grassroots initiatives to high-level meetings, with a prominent symbol being the longstanding relationship between the Jordanian Royal Family and Japan's Imperial Family, a relationship further reinforced by the Crown Prince's current visit. The ambassador noted that in 2024, the two countries celebrated the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations, a "landmark" moment in the history of bilateral ties. He explained that since the designation of Jordan-Japan relations as a "Strategic Partnership" in 2018, cooperation has been enhanced through robust dialogue in a wide range of fields including politics, defense and security, economic and development cooperation, public diplomacy, cultural exchange, and humanitarian support for refugees. Ambassador Hideki reaffirmed his full commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation to "new horizons" in light of the evolving global and regional context, especially in the Middle East, stressing that such efforts contribute to regional stability. The exhibition pays tribute to the creative heritage of Katsushika Hokusai, a 'legendary' figure in Japanese art (Petra photo) AMMAN — The Japanese embassy, in partnership with the Japan Foundation and the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), on Wednesday launched the Hokusai Manga exhibition at Ras Al Ain Gallery, ushering in a fresh phase of cultural collaboration between Jordan and Japan. According to a statement from the embassy, the exhibition pays tribute to the creative heritage of Katsushika Hokusai, a 'legendary' figure in Japanese art, while showcasing the journey of manga from its classical roots to its contemporary forms. The event invites the public to discover a form of visual storytelling that connects Japan's traditional art with today's internationally beloved manga scene. Japanese Ambassador Asari Hideki highlighted the importance of cultural engagement in enhancing the relationship between the two nations, emphasising a "mutual dedication" to fostering understanding through the arts. Deputy City Manager for Community Affairs at GAM Hatem Hamlan reiterated Amman's "ongoing support" for cultural initiatives that promote global dialogue and artistic appreciation. The exhibition runs from Wednesday to May 20, with opening hours from 10:00am to 7:00pm. On Fridays, it will be open from 3:00pm to 8:00pm, and on Saturdays from 1:00pm to 8:00pm, offering visitors a "distinctive" chance to engage with Japan's "vibrant" visual art traditions, the embassy noted.

Through this captivating collection, visitors discovered the visual narratives that connect Japan's historical art with its globally beloved manga culture. The opening ceremony began with welcoming remarks by Asari Hideki, Ambassador of Japan to Jordan, highlighting the importance of cultural exchanges and the growing friendship between Japan and Jordan. Mr. Hatem Hamlan, City Manager Deputy for Societal Affairs emphasized Amman's commitment to support cultural initiatives that foster international understanding. The government of Japan has decides to extend a grant of $660,663 to World Vision Japan (WVJ) to support the establishment of an inclusive education environment for vulnerable groups in Amman (Photo courtesy of Japanese embassy) AMMAN — The government of Japan has decided to extend a grant of $660,663 to World Vision Japan (WVJ), a Japanese Non-Governmental Organisation, to support the establishment of an inclusive education environment for vulnerable groups in Amman. The grant contract was signed by Japanese Ambassador to Jordan Asari Hideki and Project Manager of World Vision Japan in Jordan Ikenoya Rie, according to an embassy statement. The grant assistance will support the creation of an inclusive learning environment where all children, with or without disabilities and regardless of their socio-economic backgrounds, can receive learning support tailored to their diverse needs and continue their education. Based in Amman, the project will focus on early identification of disabilities and early intervention in four targeted kindergartens, while also strengthening the capacity of education personnel and caregivers to support these children. It will enhance the capacity of teachers to provide inclusive education in seven primary schools and ensure the provision of barrier-free facilities and inclusive teaching materials. Additionally, the project will work to strengthen community support for inclusive education, fostering a more supportive and accessible learning environment. Leveraging the organisation's extensive experience in this field, the project is expected to contribute to reducing social inequalities and empowering vulnerable children in Jordan, the statement said. World Vision Japan in collaboration with World Vision Syria Response Office, has been supporting education in public schools in Jordan since 2014. The Government of Japan has previously extended a grant to WVJ from 2022 to 2025 to support the implementation of the Project for Strengthening the Support System for Primary and Secondary Education Enrolment and Learning for Vulnerable Groups in Irbid, with a total grant of $2,203,341. Building on the knowledge and experience gained through this initiative, the new project aims to take a more comprehensive approach to address the needs of vulnerable children while reinforcing a long-term education support system in partnership with local governments and organisations, the statement said.
