Asha Bhosle makes SHOCKING revelations about her husband, calls him sadist, says, 'I was four months pregnant, swallowed a bottle of...'
On May 25, the biography of veteran singer Asha Bhosle, titled 'Asha Bhosle: A Life In Music', was released by Amaryllis, authored by Ramya Sarma. The book explores lesser-known chapters of Asha's personal life, some of which are quite unsettling. One particularly shocking story from her life was shared in media reports that left many people in disbelief. Asha Bhosle's Astonishing Confessions According to Mid-Day, the book discloses that in 1949, when Asha Bhosle was merely 16, she eloped with Ganpatrao Bhosle. Her older sister, the celebrated singer Lata Mangeshkar, was displeased with the marriage and refrained from speaking to Asha for quite some time. Ganpatrao Bhosle was 20 years her senior, and not long after, the romantic union took a turn for the worse. The book mentions, 'There are rumors suggesting that Ganpatrao was an alcoholic who frequently assaulted his wife, even during her pregnancy, often requiring her to be hospitalized.' It also included a quote from Asha: 'Our family was very traditional, and they could not accept a singing star as a daughter-in-law. My husband had a short temper. Perhaps he derived pleasure from causing pain, maybe he was a sadist. But no one outside our home would learn of it. I respected him, never questioning his actions. I simply fulfilled my duties according to Hindu dharma.' When Asha Bhosle Took Sleeping Pills During her pregnancy with her third child, Anand, Asha Bhosle was asked by her in-laws to leave the house. While hospitalized, she contemplated suicide. Asha Bhosle recounted, 'At one point, I thought I should end my life. I was unwell, four months pregnant, and found myself in a hospital with conditions so dire that I believed I had entered hell. I was suffering mentally. So, I swallowed a whole bottle of sleeping tablets. However, the love I had for my unborn child was so profound that I survived. I was pulled back to life, back to living.' The author noted that distressing marriage 'would understandably add emotional depth to her voice, infusing her music with pathos, sorrow, and empathy.' Tragically, years later, Asha Bhosle's daughter Varsha also attempted to take her own life in a similar manner. Reports indicate that in 2008, she allegedly tried to end her life by ingesting sleeping pills while receiving treatment at Mumbai's Jaslok Hospital. In October 2012, she took her life by using a firearm.
