Covid-hit woman gives birth to healthy baby in city hosp
Jaipur: A 31-year-old Covid-infected woman, who conceived through in vitro fertilisation (IVF) at a private centre, gave birth to a healthy baby on Wednesday at the city's govt-run Mahila Chikitsalaya.
This is the first such incident of a woman who tested Covid positive giving birth to a healthy baby this year.
"The woman was admitted to our hospital on June 2 with abdominal pain and experiencing breathing difficulties," said Dr Jyotsna Vyas, unit head at Mahila Chikitsalaya. Since the patient had breathing difficulty, the doctors suspected he of having Covid infection. The doctors conducted a Covid test and found her positive on Wednesday.
"Due to obstetric pain, an emergency caesarean delivery was performed on Wednesday at 2.20pm, and the woman gave birth to a healthy baby girl weighing 2.8kg," said Dr Asha Verma, hospital superintendent.
"Both mother and baby are healthy. The baby has not shown any signs of Covid though her samples have been sent to the laboratory," she health department is closely monitoring the Covid situation amid the detection of two new variants of Covid-19 in the state. "Since Covid cases have resurfaced in the state, we are closely monitoring the health of pregnant women coming to the hospital. If they show symptoms, we send them for Covid test," said Dr Shalini Rathore, in-charge of Covid management at Mahila Chikitsalaya.
