Ashtabula County DOH hosting vaccine clinics amid measles outbreak
(WJET/WFXP)– Ashtabula County health officials are inviting anyone not up to date on their shots to do so with a pair of vaccine clinics amid an outbreak of measles in the area.
The Ashtabula County Department of Health is hosting those vaccine clinics March 27 at the Conneaut Human Resource Center on April 7 at the Monroe Township Fire Department offering the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR), DTap, polio and flu shots and more for anyone who attends.
Measles case confirmed in Ashtabula County, OH
Anyone in need of their shots can drop by the Human Resource Center located at 327 Mill St. in Conneaut or the fire department located at 4095 Center Road in Conneaut, OH from 3:30 to 5:30 with some vaccines being offered free of charge.
Anyone planning on attending is asked to bring their insurance cards and shot records if available. All minors must also be accompanied by an adult.
The first measles case in Ashtabula was reported on March 21 involving an unvaccinated adult with the Ohio Department of Health declaring an outbreak of the disease on March 26 with 10 reported cases.
Measles outbreak confirmed in Ashtabula County
Of those 10 cases, nine are linked to the first case and none of the infected individuals were vaccinated but have since completed their isolation periods to help limit any potential spread of the disease according to the DOH.
According to the CDC, two doses of the MMR vaccine are 97% effective against measles.
